Default Question for CANADIANS. RE: OHIP and fertility treatments, what’s covered? (X-post)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What kinds of fertility treatments will OHIP cover?

I booked my HSG today and they told me that it is 100% covered so I don't have to worry about that. I also have prescriptions covered 100%.

The things that I'm wondering about are:

*IUI
*IVF
*Injections

These are just the ones I can think of right now.

Does anyone know if these and others are covered?

Thanks in advance Gals!

I dont know about Ontario. But in BC, the testing etc is covered, but the IVF, IUI and complementary procedures are not. Even through my hubby's extended medical its not. My Tubal reversal isnt covered either. Im going through University British Columbia Fertility center, and at their website it states that none of the above procedures are covered by BCmedical. Perhaps go to your local fertility site homepage, or to your medical coverage site and see online what they can tell you?

I live in Ontario and have had IUI and IVF Procedures....neither are covered by OHIP unfortunately. The injections are treated as prescriptions, so they are also not covered by OHIP - but most drug plans do cover them.
I submitted any uncovered treatments with my income tax for return this year (I spend $1200 in IUIs and and $6500 in IVFs) - If you have a drug plan with work or your husband does...check with them - maybe they cover part of the costs.

I just had both tubes removed because of ectopic pregnancies - my doctor told me that now OHIP will cover the IVF because I lost both tubes (this comes after I have already paid for the first IVF)... OHIP will cover 3 IVFs -

I hope this helps... Infertility is a long expensive road.....but hopefully will be worth every penny one day!
Good Luck!
