No big plans for the birthday. Just regular dinner and then cake.

I am soooo not a birthday party girl. And it'll just be my mom, sister, BIL, niece, nephew, and possibly my dad (if he gets back from out-of-country; my brother is in Africa too).
Work... Ugh!! I went in last week and picked up my schedule and I have mixed feelings about it. My boss has done it up for nine weeks with is nice and there are no weekends or full night shifts on it (which is super nice!) but I also don't have very many hours in the first couple of weeks (20 hours in the first two weeks). I know why she did it - to not dump me right back in all at once - and I appreciate that but it feels like a waste of time at the same time. The first two weeks are half-days (four hours a shift) and that just makes it seem like I've gone back in time five years.

Oh well.
I told her that I would be looking for other work (ie: fulltime) because I need that steady and predictable income instead of one that varies from pay to pay and I'm sure that she, as a single mother herself (was always single and raised three), understands that. Remember (maybe?) that she was having to fight to get a fulltime spot opened up again (they keep losing girls and then not filling the spot)? Well, she emailed me that same afternoon and said that the Board had approved a fulltime spot. !!! So now I'll have to apply for that (and no one else will want it since it's not exactly a step up) and I don't want it!! I've decided that it makes more sense to have a straight day job because with this one, Brogan will be all over the place - daycare one day, my mom's when I'm working a night shift, home another day... with no detectable pattern (it's a 7-week rotation). And I don't want to have to pay daycare to look after him just so I can get some sleep (since I can't expect him to sleep during the day just because I need to). Sigh....

And really, sure there are benefits and overtime and paid vacation and sick days but a fulltime doesn't make a whole lot more than me once you take off the higher tax deductions, the employee portion of the benefits payment, and the mandatory pension plan contributions, the higher association fees (like union dues), the higher legal fees... We get pay increases once we reach certain levels of hours worked so a fulltime who is in the same level as me is making pretty much the same as I make as a parttime.
Gah!! Blathering on...
So yeah - I'm on the hunt for a fulltime day job, with or without benefits. I'm still torn between out-of-town (since that will bring it's own additional stressors) and staying here too.
I'm going to try to just ignore all that for another week.

I rarely post and then fill a whole page when I do.)
