Default Mystery Solved...

Remember how I was wondering how our compassionate service duties could be so light when I was first called as Assistant Compassionate Service Leader? I have figured it out. I just found out that one of only two pregnant women in the ward is really sick with the flu. She's due in about 4 or 5 weeks and is having some contractions too. She has 5 children under the age of 8 already and her hubby is the Bishop. So I called the CS leader to let her know and to let her know that I was planning on bringing the family some dinner. Her reaction was very much, "And why are you telling me this?" She actually said to me, "Well, the Relief Society President is her neighbor and I haven't heard from her. If I don't hear from her then I just assume the situation is under control."

I know the British are much more private than we are and don't necessarily want everyone jumping in with help but for goodness' sake! The woman needs some help! Aaargh.

Ohhh, how frustrating. That isn't the RS Pres job to figure out whether you guys should be helping right, it's yours, right? So are you going to the the RS Pres? Poor thing I can't imagin being pg and having the flu and 5 kids and a busy dh, ugh!

I'm just going to do what I can for her and casually mention it to the RS Pres. There is a serious phobia here of Americans coming in and telling them they aren't doing things right...probably because that's what a lot of the American visitors do (and not in a constructive criticism way). I personally don't ascribe that quality to UT Mormons but when we said we weren't from Utah they were *visibly* relieved. I was shocked!

ROFL Marianne, note to self "If I move to England or anywhere else be sure to not mention where I'm from". That's too bad Utah has such a stigma with it because you find those "kinds" of people everywhere, not just Utah.
