I don't know whether to laugh or cry
This is a discussion on I don't know whether to laugh or cry within the Christian Families - Mormon/Latter Day Saints forums, part of the Culture category; I knew having a baby would cost us money- and we live paycheck to paycheck as it was. But I ...
I knew having a baby would cost us money- and we live paycheck to paycheck as it was. But I never planned on TWO. I went to apply for WIC today - and she took one look at our income & immediately said "yes you qualify" as she handed me a sheet with the income guidelines on it.I almost choked- we are earning about HALF the income limit. I started thinking about the fact that I am no longer working- Dr told me no lifting as of 8 weeks. So there goes my income. Christmas is coming...and we will have no flippin money. Then we have to somehow get TWO of everything for these babies cuz I sold it all. I am so happy to be pregnant & Im happy to be blessed with two- but I am in a PANIC!!!! I have a feeling that we will be knowing "Poor" like we never have before.
Thanks for listening..I had to get that stress out there.

That's so hard to have such blessings and then such hard times! Are you guys on Food Stamps and stuff to help you along right now. If not I'd highly suggest it. If you're making half of what WIC says then you for sure should qualify for food stamps and they will help a lot right now being pg and not being able to work etc. You can also get heating assistance and there is even renting assistance. I know all this because I had a SIL who did this for about 3 years while her Dh was in school and they had 4 kids. Good luck with everything and take care of yourself.

Re: I don't know whether to laugh or cry
Ang..I've been thinking about you latley girl. And I can totally relate to the "poor" thing. I went to my Dr appt today and they handed me a sheet of the billing and all. Basically, not including the hospital visit, we owe my midwife $690. Not bad, excpet they want it all before the baby comes. They put me on a payment plan, so...$115 per month for 6 months. I walked out thinking, "Where am I gonna pull $115 outta every month for the next 6 months?" The kid's not even here yet and it's costing me $$$.
We're on WIC too and it helps soooo much! It makes such a huge difference, really. And think of this, I know that you're worried and stressed, but Heavenly Father gave you these 2 babies for a reason. So....I'm sure things will work out. I know thats hard to think of right now, but...it's what I'm going on right now too.
As for having to buy 2 of everything...I wouldn't worry. I'm sure that the sisters in your ward will throw you a baby shower. At least they better!!! If not, you tell me and I'll drive up to ID and set 'em straight. Also, when you are buying clothes and things, ask for a "twin discount" I know that some places do this so, that can help as well. And of course if you need anything, please let me know. I know how badly you want to make a nice Christmas for your kids. If you need anything, really...PM me or email me.
Oh, I would feel so overwhelmed too! Shabs had some great advice on using your resources to the fullest. Save what you can for future expenses but try not to freak out too much--I find that the Lord doesn't always line up our blessings just so we don't have to worry. Darn it all, He tests our faith. But I do find that as I go along I am incredibly blessed as I know you will be too.

The above posts are great advice! ITs a good idea to see what resources you have out there like WIC or food stamps or whatever. Those programs are there for people who need assistance and HEY, we all pay taxes into those programs so take advantage of them when you need them. The church is always there to help as well and you might let the RS Pres know that you will be needeing some extra help and maybe they can bring meals in for longer than normal or something.
It is such a blessing to have 2 so Heavenly Father must think you can handle it and will help you to help yourself. He will help you provide a way, somehow. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it!
Good luck!

My little Scottish miracle is now a toddler! Love the kilt!
I bet people will give you tons of stuff--people did that with my twins. I had clothes and some toys coming out of my ears.
I say also to shop garage sales, ebay, secondhand stores...and buy everything used. Thats what I did. We weren't even hurting for money, but I felt we had better things to spend $$ on than two of everything brand new. I bought our swings, bouncers, exersaucers, etc...all secondhand and saved a ton of money. Good luck and hang in there!
I don't know what to say. I truly am sorry that you are in a financial bind right now. Everyone's trials are different. We have one child and more than enough to pay for more, but for some reason haven't been blessed with anymore. 2 years of struggling with infertility. Life doesn't seem fair to me sometimes. I know you are stressed, but I was kind of shocked to see your post. I guess all I can say is count your blessings that you are even able to have children because there are those of us that can't. I know the Lord will find a way for it to work out for you or he wouldn't have blessed you so much. I hope I haven't offended anyone and I apologize if I did.
Another thought--check with the local moms of multiples club. Usually, there are moms with older multiples who are getting rid of all their baby twin stuff for cheap or free. I know twin moms who have gotten used double strollers and things that way.
I was just thinking of that, Christine! Our moms-of-multiples group in the Seattle area does a big sale every year and the moms-of-multiples get first crack at a cheaper price, I think. Anyhow, a good resource.

By the way, did you ever find out if they were frat or identical? Did you use fertility drugs (I read that you tried to get pg for a long time?) Is so, they are probably frat... Did they ever if there is more than one placenta? You might have told me but I can't remember.
No fertility drugs- just a big fat surprise!
They are in seperate sacs, and the Dr said that by the measurement of some kind of membrane they are fraternal.
My family is banding together to buy the stroller/2 car seats that snap on that stroller. Its the one thing I am going to get new & i will be using it a TON, Im sure!

Is it the graco duo glider? Thats the best one. I loved mine. Very convenient. You'll like it. My twins were a big fat suprise too--it must have been neat after trying for so long to get two at once!!
Thanks everyone for understanding!
Christine- it is the duoglider. I know I'll use it a ton. It will be my sanity saver so I can get out of the house & about with the babes. i go crazy being cooped up in the house for too long!
