do you eat ethnic food?
Just curious to know if any of you eat ethnic foods on a regular basis? We have curry every other week or so, and we have Chinese food pretty often. I'm trying to learn how to cook some Thai stuff. I have a Canadian friend here who is totally into Persian food. Anyway, the reason I ask is because we had the missionaries over for dinner tonight and I made Chicken curry and both of them said that they had only ever had curry once before they came to Hong Kong, but now they eat it all the time. (they're from the States.) Same with me. Before I got married, I'd only had curry a handful of times. My mom never cooked ethnic food. I grew up on casseroles, roasts, and typical American and/or Mormon meals. lol
What about you?

Re: do you eat ethnic food?
I grew up on american food as well and my family to this day NEVER tries anything new. I'm speaking of my parents and siblings. But, dh and I, we're open to trying almost any type of ethnic food. We account this to living in Ann Arbor, MI for 5 years, where we were in the minority.LOL My kids will try new things too, which is nice. Hard to find good ethnic places to eat at in Utah though!LOL

Re: do you eat ethnic food?
I probably eat more ethnic foods then "american" foods except for hamburgers and fries of course. I LOVE LOVE LOVE curey but don't or haven't tried to make it (no time right now). I love to eat out at ethnic restaraunts anytime I can and the BEST curey I've ever had was at an Indian place in Portland Oragon....just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Re: do you eat ethnic food?
We do for sure. I'm not a huge fan of curry though, I guess I just have a hard time acquiring the taste for it. And Dh has a friend from India that likes to do pot lucks, we make american he makes indian, he said they use curry in everything.
I do have hang up's with anything and everything from water (fish, lobster, shrimp, crab) I'm actually allergic to shellfish so that's okay with me, lol.

Okay, what exactly is a Mormon meal???
We like ethnic food as well. I've never really had anything with curry though, but I think DH would like to try stuff. Living in Cleveland makes it very easy to eat ethnic food, except good Cuban food ( )

Re: do you eat ethnic food?
By ethnic, I mean Italian, Chinese (dinner tonight in fact), Mexican, Eastern European (kielbasa, sauerkraut - we're Polish and Slovenian/Croation), Creole, Cuban (have to make it myself and it's not as good as what was in Key West, FL), Puerto Rican....umm, I think that's about it!!

Re: do you eat ethnic food?
Bev, the typical Mormon meal to me is like Potato's (either mashed, in a cassarol, or baked) with green salad, veggies, and roast or chicken and for desert green jello with shredded carrots (LOL). Meat and potato's meals is what I always think of for "mormon" meals, lol.
