??? about Sunday tv/movie habits...
I was just wondering what the rules are in your home about watching tv/movies on Sunday? I grew up in a house where we didn't watch anything except the occasional "Disney Sunday Movie" or videos that the church put out like Togethr Forever etc. I've kind of carried that on with me into our marriage and dh is fine with it, but I'm wondering if there are some movies that are "ok" to watch? There are some people in our branch that let their kids watch any "LDS" movies on Sunday, like The RM, Singles Ward, etc, but I'm not sure I agree with that. Those seem like movies that you could watch any other day, and so it wouldn't really make the Sabbath set apart as a special day. KWIM? For example, today my dd asked if she could watch the Sound of Music, and I think that would be a good "Sunday" movie, but she watches it a lot during the week (she LOVES it), and I don't think she'll learn to tell the difference between a normal weekday and the Sabbath. KWIM?
Anyway, I'm just wondering what you all do in your homes and if you do watch movies, what kind of movies do you watch, etc?
Thanks!

Re: ??? about Sunday tv/movie habits...
My children are allowed to watch mild Cartoons... I think it depends on a persons interpitation of what keep the day Holy means. My family has always got together and popped popcorn, made fudge, while the kids watch the "Disney Sunday Movie" or the disney channel, and the Adults visit and play games.
To me this is just fine... But my BIL doesn't allow his TV on.

Oops, I'm the bad one in the group I guess! I let the girls watch their cartoons and I've even got hooked on a few sunday night shows in the past!

Re: ??? about Sunday tv/movie habits...
Well, we usually have the TV on all day Sunday. Especially during football season *blush*. There really isn't much on tv on Sundays so we usually watch cartoons. We are watching cartoons right now. Or we go over to my bro's house and watch the new releases, cuz he works at a movie store and gets them early and that's usually the only day we can all get together to watch them.
Growing up, my family always has a no tv/no computer on Sunday rule (except for my dad and golf, lol). Somedays I think that would be nice here, but I don't know what else we'd do all day.

 . . . me too . . . Desperate Housewives, and Grey's Anatomy are my current addictions.
We TiVo all of Tori's shows, so she is only allowed to watch the shows like Little Bear and such . . . we haven't restricted Sundays.
And Val . . . I love the sound of what your family does. I wish I still got along with my SIL and BIL . . . well, I do, I just don't trust them, therefore don't totally enjoy spending very much time with them. We used to do that every Sunday though.

Re: ??? about Sunday tv/movie habits...
We've done a variety of things. When we were back in Michigan we always got together on sunday nights for dinner with the entire family-20 people! But we are in Utah now, so it's just us and occasionally my brother and his family. But as far as television, I grew up in a home with no tv except the disney family movie or Donny and Marie!LOL We're trying to expand our church dvd collection. I don't necessarily think my kids need to be watching Singles Ward type movies on sundays but I don't stop them either! Sometimes we watch an old black and white type movie. At one point, one cupboard in our tv armoire was regular dvds and one was sunday only dvds...but my 3 yr old ruined that!LOL We do keep the appropriateness in mind, for the most part.

I love Extreme Home Makeover, so we usually watch that. We try to keep the TV off until then, though.

Re: ??? about Sunday tv/movie habits...
Yeah, we are pretty guilty with the TV and video games on Sunday....tend to watch whatever looks interesting...things like SciFi channel with Stargate and Star Trek: Voyager, also things like Myth Busters, and if we weren't playing video games, we'd be watching Simpsons and Malcom in the Middle, too. DH's family kind of had a no video game rule for part of his teenage years, but were pretty lax on the TV shows (we actually all watched Simpsons and Malcom together when we lived nearby) but my family never had any real TV/game rules, so DH and I are just as bad.
