Icon5 Question for Moms of Girls

Have you gotten your daughter's hair cut? If so, where did you take her? I don't know what to do w/Kennedy's hair. I think it needs a trim because its getting so dry and some of her split ends have split ends! And its getting long. A friend of mine told me to go ahead and take her to an african american salon to have it done, and then I've heard that if I get it trimmed it will really "ruin" her hair. What did you guys do? Any input is appreciated. I'm at a loss here!

When Tina was one year old i was trying to comb her hair as usually after washing, but she didnt want to sit still, she was getting mad and i couldnt comb her hair properly. I guess she was too young to stay still for so long. So I got mad and cut her hair short. And I was happy i did that. We both could rest finally. All she was needing then was a quick combing and it was done. She had a very dry hair, and I didnt know what to use, conditioners for "black" hair were too heavy for hers, and those for "white" hair werent working at all. So i believe cutting her hair was the best thing at that time.
Then I left them to grow. She was more and more patient and finally got used to longer combing so i could braid her hair again. Now she has waist lenght hair - of course when wet and straight but its so much easier now to handle them. Although it still takes a lot of time!

well I got Elise's Hair cut when she turned 1 and then i got it cut again when she was 2 1/2 she will be due again soon. Elise has extremly curly hair so brushing is hard..but I usually put it braids like eve. I will tell you this go to a blaxk hair salon. With mixed childeren that are half white half black..they do a better job. I took her to a white salon for her first haircut and i regreted it. I hope this helps you some. Oh EVE did you ever find the right conditioner?

no i havent myself, everything recommended by Black people living here was too heavy, too oily for Tinas hair.
Then i've heard about "just for me" detangler spray, i even managed to get it from Holland and was so happy until... finally Tee saved us, i got "Sta-Sof-Fro" hair spray from him and it made wonderfull job with Tina's hair! The best choice ever, I dont even feel like trying anything else. When i went to London i got also shampoo from "Sof n'free n'pretty" for kids. It was hard to get it even in UK, its not like its in every shop, so you guys are more lucky and probably have wider choice over there.

Laliyaah is almost two, she hasn't had her hair cut, and I really don't plan on it. Also, my youngest son Naathaniel, who is 3 1/2, has only had one trim, about two years ago, and I am not planning on cutting his anytime soon either.
I would take them to an AA salon, they are usually better at dealing with the very curly hair some black biracial kids have.
Also, I find if their hair is very dry, washing it less helps. I wash Than's about every 10 days or so.
Good Luck.

2 and a half and not cut, and won't

Condition, Condition, Condition, that is the key.... get a good leave in conditioner, a good spray conditioner/detangeler and a goaod wide tooth comb

No hair cuts here. I used the Detangler and can get it combed through, then it goes into a pony tail or I straighten it. It gets to matted and nasty if I leave it down and curly.
