I am a SAHM and I worked in daycare for many many years and saw things I liked and didn't like.Personally I would use a daycare center because they are more likely to run on a stricter guideline than inhome.. I have seen some "nannies" that I would die if they were watching my child..so I would use the best rated daycare near me..thankfully for me I didn't have too

Alex has been in a municipal daycare (or nursery school) since he was 9 mo and I had to go back to work. TG it exists! I don't know that I would send him to a "home" one, unless I knew the nannies VERY well and that they are fully qualified, like the municipal ones. Our nursery school even has its own kitchen with a nutritionist that works out the best meals and menus for the kiddies based on their age and varied according to intollerances or allegies. The school is also kept very clean by other workers there and they are all very friendly and professional.

Pretty much I stop using daycares since my oldest son was abused. I was using a licensed facility and i didnt like the way the results were because this person got away with child abuse. Im SAHM so if i need a sitter i either use a friend i can trust or my family that if i run out for 2 seconds to pick up some milk or something because the commissary was right behind my house.

My SIL watched the twins in my home from 6 weeks-2nd birthday. I couldnt have asked for a better situation for both me, my kids and my SIL. Since October 2004 they have been in a preschool. I wouldnt use an at home daycare only because I dont feel they teach all they do is babysit. Also many times they dont have enough help...if any! Due to Karsen's biting issues he may have to leave the preschool...and in that case a good friend of mine will watch him for a few months...then we will try preschool again. Im keeping my fingers crossed in stops biting!!!

I'll be the odd ball here LOL

Mimi goes to a home daycare but its govt controlled...

There are different kinds of daycares here...some are govt controlled/subsidized (7$-12$/day) which include the big daycares and the home daycares... and then you have unsupervised daycares that can be home daycares or bigger daycares as well (price ranging from 20-30$/day)

There is no criteria to get the subsidized daycare(don't matter how much money you make or even if you work or not)... the only thing thats hard is getting a spot LOL

So that being said...

When I first sent Mimi to daycare I picked one nearby... after visiting a few I opted for a bigger one because I wasn't comfortable with homedaycares.

All the while I put Mimi on a waiting list for a subsidized daycare spot.

When one finally opened it was in a home daycare... that was such a hard decision to make.

But we went to meet them... and they agreed for me to spend a whole day there with Mimi and bring her gradually at first so she would get used to it.

And so I decided we would give it a try. And Mimi really likes it.

Of course its not like going to a preschool or a bigger daycare that works a bit more like a school...

But I feel like it has its advantages as well... like the fact that she learns spanish through play... and she seems to really like her friends and the daycare providers.

I figured that she'll be in a school setting from 5 to (hopefully) 20 something years old LOL
So whats the point in rushing the formal learning... I'm pretty sure that no matter the daycare arrangements, by the time children turn 6-7, you can't really tell if they learned more or less before 5... kwim?!

Although I have to be truthfull and admit that if I had the money to send Mimi to a preschool (currently the only option is Montessori around where we live) I would have sent her there without a doubt. LOL

But I am not losing sleep over the fact that Mimi is in a home setting type of daycare... She's happy and thats all that matters right now!
