Default Identity Issue

I didnt even know this was here until just now!

Im Stephanie, Mom to 5 beautiful bi-racial children.

My oldest son, is having some issues with "identity" because before he started school, he was an individual. Now, since he goes to a prodominantly (did i spell that right?) black school, (well, all black school, there are a few mixed kids, i think 3) he is starting to behave differently. Now he is coming home using words he has no business saying, teaching them to my younger kids. Throwing his hat backwards, wearing his clothes different.

It bothers me to the extent that he is trying so hard to fit in with the kids at school. he was fine before he started, now, i dont know, i dont like his new personality.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

All 3 of my kids are in school....1 in high school & my twins are in kindergarden. I'm assuming your oldest is in kinder...right? My twins still dress in whatever I pick out for them. My oldest has his own style, but its pretty trendy. As for his "tude" I would remind him that you have rules at home. Give him the rules and let him know there will be consequences for his behavior. Make sure you stick to them. He is only 5 and is probably testing the waters at home.

Welcome! I don't have any advice...although being half black myself...I was raised in a mostly white area and my younger half sister (who is black) would always say I acted too white. So to her, I would act more black....if that can be.,..like your son, dress different, talk different. I would definitely have a problem with the words being said though.
