Re: African American Hair Question???
First of all I would like to say God Bless your mother for adopting two children of another race. I always wonder why people go overseas to adopt when there are so many needy children right here. But, I will recommend that your mother take the girls to an African American hair salon and let the professionals teach her how to care for their hair. Secondly, find out if the salon can recommend someone to cornrow or braid the girls hair. This is usually done with hair extensions and that will give the little girl longer hair and the braiding will probably help it grow if it is taken care of properly. This style will last for months at a time and she will still be able to wash it. Also, she could try what is called a Kiddie perm. That will straighten the hair some and help her manage it a little better. But, it involve chemicals and she would have to be very careful that is why I recommended the professional first.
In addition, just a friendly tidbit, it is politically incorrect in the African American community to refer to our hair as "bad" you may say it is corse or kinky, but never bad. P.S. Tell your mom to pick up a Ebony or Essence magazine at the store maybe that will help her to see the type of products we use on our hair. Good Luck!
