He wouldn't have been *my* first choice (but then again that's why I'm not a male and a Cardinal ) I think overall it was probably a very good choice in that he's older and things will stay the same for awhile. The Church isn't ready for drastic change and I do believe that even with all the behind the scenes politicing (sp?, heck is that even a word) that the Holy Spirit did have her hand in this.

Our family couldn't be happier! God bless Pope Benedict XVI! I trust fully that the Holy Spirit led the Cardinals to their choice. It's just really exciting that they picked our favorite!

Did everyone see it live on tv? Wow, what a moment. History in the making. I wasn't born yet when John Paul II was elected.

I think my next book will be "Salt of the Earth," an interview given by Cardinal Ratzinger to a secular reporter. My husband has several of Ratzinger's books on our shelf, but I've heard this one recommended today as a good book to "get to know" our new Pope.

I will pray that our new Papal father will walk in the footsteps of his predecessor. I didn't always agree with Pope John Paul, especially on his views on birth control and AIDS prevention, but I always respected him....Pope Benedict is more conservative than John Paul. I pray that the Catholic Church will not take a step backwards.

May the Lord, our savior Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit, and the Blessed Mother guide him as he begins this very serious path. May he continue to stay in good health, and may he not be so 'set in his ways' that he is unwilling to prayerfully consider things outside of his normal line of thinking, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

May his reign bring great joy and continue to encourage the faithful Youth to strengthen their beliefs.
