Just a question...
Since we were married in the United church (priest wouldn't marry us, since we were living together, he told me I was a hypocrite)...the Catholic church doesn't recognize it right? So in order to have marriage as one of the sacraments, we would need to get married again but in the catholic church? We had planned on renewing our vows anyways, but was curious how this all worked

Re: Just a question...
I spent about 20 minutes trying to find an answer on various Catholic websites. I am more confused than I was before.
I *think* that it won't be a difficult process, but you should talk to the local parish priest.
:gl and let us know

Re: Just a question...
You may be able to just ask to have your current marriage 'blessed'. That is what dh and I will be doing now that my annulment is final.

Re: Just a question...
My sister-in-law's sister had her marriage blessed because they got married at city hall.

Re: Just a question...
My BIL and SIL got married in a registry office and had their marriage blessed in church, because she was divorced. I would assume it worked the same way in this case? I'd suggest you talk to your priest, and he can best advise you on what to do.
Good luck, let us know!

Re: Just a question...
I always thought if someone got married outside of the church- even if married by a priest- it wasn't recognized. (My cousin got married outside by a priest and it wasn't recognized... ) I like the idea of having it blessed.

Re: Just a question...
I'm not sure. It depends...some Christian weddings are recognized in the Catholic Church. When DH and I were engaged and going through our pre-maritial counseling, he was divorced, and they had to verify the person who married him to determined if it was a recognizable marriage.
That is awful that the priest wouldn't marry you. This may upset someone here, but that is my opinion. I was also living with DH before we got married (bad idea - looking back), but wouldn't it be better to marry you than to have you "unmarried"?

Re: Just a question...
Congrats hun It's a pretty easy thing to do. Dh isn't Catholic and we weren't married Catholic so we need to have ours blessed too. Unfortunately getting dh to do it isn't proving an easy task. I think I have him convinced for our 10th we'll get it done but who knows

Re: Just a question...
I think it is great that you can have your marriage blessed and agree that it wasn't very good of the original priest not to have married you in the first place
