Does your parish...
have a nursery for kids? Our does not, and none of the churches here in our town do.
I have heard that some Catholic churches do have them. Do any of you attend where there is a nursery and if so do you use it?

Re: Does your parish...
My parish does not, but we do have a children's mass where preschool kids are taken to the church hall before the gospel for a lesson. We do have a "baby box" or a "cry room" which is to the side of the altar. It has glass windows so you can see everything that is happening.

Re: Does your parish...
I think there is a nursery offered here. I have only ever used a nursery twice. In England they had a "sunday school" for 12-26 months during church and called it their nursery. They sang songs and had a lesson. Other than those 2 times i have never used them because I think it is important to get the kids used to going to church and behaving in church. We do utilize the cry room from around 10/12 months until around 2 years when the kids aren't needing to contstantly move. Even in the cry room though my older kids are expected to behave, we are there for the baby not them to play.
now that was a long answer for a simple question.

Amen to that. I hate it when parents let their children run loose in the cry room. Some parents act like they can just let their children do whatever they want in the cry room so that they can focus on the Mass. It drives me crazy.

Yes, we have a liturgy here, split into 3 different age groups for kids from the age of 3/4, and also a creche type room for the little ones, but I can't stand sitting in there (and missing mass in the process!), so if Jamie is messing about, dh and I take turns taking him outside for a while.

Re: Does your parish...
Well, we use the cry room... M usually walks up to the front of the cry room and stands there watching mass... which is odd 'cause when we're in mass she is all over the place.

Re: Does your parish...
Our church does have a nursery and a cry room. We don't use either. We have always taken Nicholas into Mass with us. One of our deacons just told us that we should teach our children from the get go to go INTO Mass with us and seat up front, so that they know WHY they go to church. If they get inconsolable, then you go to the cry room. He said we should get our children involved as much as we can, so they learn what "church" is all about...GOD!!! Just thought I'd share!

Re: Does your parish...
We don't have a nursery OR a cry room. And unfortunately we are getting to that point where mass is a challenge with our 17 month old. We are trying everything, so if anyone has ideas, feel free to share.
