Do you celebrate halloween?
If so, does your faith have anything to do with it?
We don't, partly because we were brought up in catholic homes and never celebrated it anyway, but also because it isn't widely celebrated in England as a whole anyway.
Saying that, my daughter has gone trick or treating tonight with her cousins, and my girls buy a pumpkin every year anyway. I don't believe they're actively worshipping the devil by celebrating like some parents do, though.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Do you celebrate halloween?
I always said that my children would not go out on Halloween only because I felt it was an evil holiday and why celebrate the devil??
That being said, my DH really likes this holiday (frankly i think it's the candy he likes). He didn't think I should hold Quinn back from a holiday that all kids have so much fun doing.
So he does go out, no scary costumes allowed, and I really try to avoid the houses that have devilish decorations. Quinn has become more scared of things this year so we are taking him to 3 houses.
I really do not like it, but i guess there are 2 parents involved

Re: Do you celebrate halloween?
Yes and no. I absolutely hate Halloween (not for religious reasons...I just don't like it). We try to do one thing for the kids but beyond that we don't do much for Halloween. I actually liked being in England the last 3 years we were there because it wasn't such a big deal. It was a change to be in the US this year where it is a big deal.

Re: Do you celebrate halloween?
We do, and I like it! I feel it's harmless, fun holiday for the kids. I never think of it as devil-worshipping at all. But we also don't do anything scary at our house either. Only cute costumes and the decorations are all pumpkins or harvesty-- no vampires or creepy things. I love walking around our neighborhood, seeing how decorated the houses are, how friendly all the neighbors are, and how they really went all out to make it a fun night for the kids-- it's so much nicer than the busy, rushed lives we usually lead.

Re: Do you celebrate halloween?
We have always celebrated Halloween, but I too have never associated it with anything evil.
To me, it is just a time of make-believe and dress up. A good excuse to pretend to be something else and eat lots of yummy candy.

Re: Do you celebrate halloween?
We do too... it's dh's favorite holiday... he used to like dressing up in scary costumes but that's not allowed anymore since we have kids! I agree with AnnMarie and Karen- harmless fun for kids... oh, since we just moved into a new area... it's a great way to meet people!

Re: Do you celebrate halloween?
Hi! I am *kind of* new here... but I saw this topic and had to add, that I really like everyones viewpoints! Its nice to know I am not the ONLY one who does NOT like Halloween but I do accept it, as another poster said, as a time for Dress up/make believe and yummy candy. My dd is only 1 (almost!) so this year we just went out to peoples' houses we knew and they had somethign other than candy for her. Also, my children won't dress in the drabby, scarey costumes if I can help it... something nice, I suppose.
My husband LOVES Halloween. I, on the other hand, would be happy without it!!!
