How do you explain death to a 5 year old? The reason I am asking is that my dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer and we do not know how long we have with him and I don't know how to explain it to Vanessa. When her grandmother passed away almost 2 years go, I never explained it to her cause she was too young. Help?

I would explain it as simply as possible. Maybe something like "Grandpa is going to live with Jesus." Tell her although she won't see him anymore he will always be with her watching out for her. I hope that helps. I'm sorry about your Dad. I'll say a prayer for him.
