The coverage this past week
What have been your thoughts this week as you watched the news coverage?

Re: The coverage this past week
I have loved how it's made us all think. I knew he was a wonderful man and I've been very moved this week but I didn't expect quite the level of media coverage that it has gotten. I don't think they really had a choice when they saw the reaction that people were having. But we've had a great week of discussing religion which is something so left out of the national media that even though they've been discussing the devisive issues in our church they have been covering religion. It's been refreshing in a way because Christianity isn't being forgotten. I also think it's been a great wake up call for Americans who are so secular and who are so wrapped up in themselves that there is still this religiosity out there.

Re: The coverage this past week
I totally agree with you. I have loved looking back at Pope John Paul II's wonderful life, and it really made me appreciate how much he did for the world, as I'm sure it did everyone watching.
I'm glad it has gotten so much media attention - if I didnt have such young children I would have been gone myself to pay my respects. My MIL and FIL flew out on Wednesday, they're coming back tomorrow.

Re: The coverage this past week
I love all the coverage, except for one thing - the # of polls asking people whether women should be allowed to become priests, whether a new priest should be chosen who allows birth control other than NFP, etc. I believe that the Holy Father is someone called by God, and we shouldn't have human agenda put into the mix. I take comfort in knowing that the Cardinals who will choose the next Pope are going to do so in prayer and not take politics into consideration, but I found it distasteful that such things were even brought up.
BUT, I love how the Holy Father's life was such a testimony and will remain an example of how to truly live a life of faith for a very long time!

You know, I didn't see any of those polls- and I work in TV!!
I like the coverage! I loved learning about the Pope... that he was an actor and a writer, etc.

Re: The coverage this past week
The polls drive me nuts too, first of all their asking mainly just Americans not even American Catholics so people who have no vested interest in it. Second, it drove me crazy that they started asking the questions on Saturday night. It could have at least waited a few days.
I'm just happy that the media didn't censor what they were reporting. Today one of the news channels was showing still images of the funeral and the last image they showed was of one of the cardinals holding up the host during the Eucharistic prayer, it was such a religious moment and they chose to end there which I really loved.
