hey guys

well, we're back from vacation - we truly did relax and enjoy ourselves for the first time in a looong time! the friends we stayed with were great hosts, and it turned out to be a very timely trip as you'll see if you read to the end of my post
we did 2 days at Disney, one for Disneyland and one for California Adventure - Josh was free to get in since he's only 1, and i have to say that Disney is an extremely baby-friendly place. they even have these "baby care" rooms with bottle warmers, high chairs, change tables, the works. it is SO easy to go with a baby because you don't have to worry about how you're going to warm a bottle etc. and they sell homogenized milk everywhere which is also great. it was cool to see the look on his little face as he met Mickey, Winnie the Pooh and some of the other characters, he was so excited! it really is the happiest place on earth... so easy to feel like you're 5 years old again.
we toured Biola's campus - for those of you who don't know what that is, Biola University is a Christian school in the suburbs of LA, and one of the schools in that family is Talbot School of Theology, where our friend that we stayed with teaches. so that was fun to see.
we also met my uncle whom i had never met - also an amazing event. God has been so gracious in this area, allowing us to come into contact with people we would never have known otherwise, and hear stories about my biological family that have helped me understand who i am today.
and we visited Saddleback church, a very interesting experience. (it's the church where Rick Warren is the pastor)
So our friend that we stayed with - he was the first senior pastor that my dh worked for, he was a prof for both of us at seminary, he married us and our son is named after him - suffice to say, he's been a major influence on both of us, especially dh. we had plenty of time to talk with him and his wife, and just sort of pick their brains and get advice on some aspects of full-time ministry that we're facing once again in this church. One thing that was on our minds was the fact that our senior pastor is leaving next summer to move onto a different ministry opportunity overseas. at the time we were in CA, we did not know if dh would be asked to candidate for the vacant position or not...
well, we returned home to find out that the elders board wants dh to candidate, and he has accepted that offer. basically he's going to go through an interview process for his current boss's job. so most of our conversations with our friends on vacation were very timely, as i reflect back on that i just think how the Lord knew what was coming and i know that He directed our conversations in the way that they went. too cool!
the next few months of our lives will be very interesting and i think that we will be facing some spiritual warfare, more than usual. but i look forward to seeing the great things that God is going to be doing!
