Icon5 Bible's

What is your favorite translation for Bible reading/studying and why?

There is a book I am intrested in called Scriptures it is supposed to be the Bible in chronilogical (sp) order and read like a chapter book. Has anyone heard of this book or read it? I love to read but I find it hard to read a book in the Bible the way I would read a real page turner (The Left behind series is my recent favorite). I often just pray over the Bible and open it where ever it may and read from there but I want to read more into the stories. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.
TIA
Rachel

I either read usually from the NIV or The Message. I started out with the NIV and still have it tho its falling apart. The message for getting straight to it and being so clear. However the message is a paraphrase and not a translation. Therefore at times it can miss something important.

Personally if i get a scripture from the NIV i will stick to the NIV and vice versa.

God bless,

Matthew

there is a Bible that is set up so that you go through the whole thing in one year. Its just called One Year Bible. I think that each day has new and old testiment scripture to read.

We read the NKJ, NASB, & New Living Translation here. My husband went to seminary and has studied the translations. We don't read NIV or the message for that reason (sorry Matthew). Dh recommends the New Living Translation to new believers.

I don't know anything about Scriptures. sounds interesting, though.

I first started using a Living way bible (living translation) when I first became a Christian then start using the King's James version but I had trouble understanding it so for the last several years I have been reading the NIV version.

I read the New International Version and I love the clarity of it for me. Also would recommend The Message as well. Sometimes a version can help motivate more reading when it is a little easier to understand in my opinion.

2 tim 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
All translations have errors since they are translated by man but more than that written by man, it has mans fingerprints all over it. Same with us if God speaks to us for a long time, what he says will be slightly out in by we have written. However this doesnt neglect what he said and whether or not its authentic and accurate.

The bible one person uses therefore might be less easier to understand than another. I'm sure that God knew this to be the case and thats why there are so many translations out there which are accepted, however i do know that bible translations do exist that should be avoided. One thing that should be done however is to use a handful of translations during studies as its amazing how scripture becomes so open and mind-blowing and how God speaks about it.

Oh and acting upon it what we read, putting it into practice.

God bless,

Matthew

I have always read the King James Version but I just can't comment to reading it like I want to So based on your suggestions I went Bible shopping. I feel convicted to read the Bible everyday and I want to retain the knowledge it has to offer me. The book store did not have The Scriptures (the book I mentioned before)so I ended up with The DAily Walk Bible New Living Translation I have read the introduction to how they have translated the Book and one thing concerns me. It says they have changed the male-oriented terms because it was used to refer to humanity in general. I am naive in most aspects but common sense tells me no matter what era you are in if you want to talk about the women then you say woman if you want to talk about men than you say man. I feel like the Bible puts alot of emphises on a man's responsabilty and a woman's seprate from that. I just got it yesterday so I haven't read alot out of this Bible, but I would like your opinion on rather or not this alteration to God's word still holds its integrity.
TIA
Rachel

I think in the biblical day it was plural terms and therefore there was no differentiation(sp?) between man and woman except in cases like she became pregnant. There is a Todays NIV which does this as well, im not that convinced and see it more as a way of becoming PC, tho im very sceptical..

This link talks about it bible gender

God bless,

Matthew
