I just wanted to vent about people who don't stop or move for emergency vehicles. Today I passed an ambulance, 2 cops cars and a fire truck and I was the ONLY ONE who stopped!! WTF?!?!

I grew up in a city of over 1 million people and in this little suburbian town of 65 thousand no one stops for emergency vehicles?

It just made me mad beyond belief. And I had to b*tch.

Sadly Ellie some people just dont give a d#mn anymore. My dh has had to run code many times and some people refuse to pull over. I always try to pull over right away . And if I'm at a stoplight I try to get over . And if You cant move out of the way , stay put and most times they can find a way. I wish more people could get tickets for this offense. But it would be hard to prove in court. I always think about if it was my family that need help and it makes me even madder.

I agree with this. Sadly people only seem to care if it is their family memeber being transported. I remeber being taught to do this in driver's ed. I wonder if they still teach this.

I remember having this discussion with the babysitter. Her response was "well if it's soooo...... important why don't they pass a law.?" I told her it was about courtesy and that person in the ambulance could have minutes to live , how would you feel if that was your mom in that ambulance? She has since changed her ways.

ITA!!! People can be ignornant when someone live is in danger.. i think its stupid when people dont pull over if this was their spouse or family they would want the same respect arghh some people sometimes i think im venting too lol... but here in texas thats against the law you can be arrested and taken to court for this offense..

I was taught to always pull over by mom, who is a paramedic.

That is the law here. You can and will get ticketed for not pulling to the right for anything that has red and blues and a siren on.

I was taught this in 97 or 98 when I got my license but who knows if it's still taught. You'd be amazed at all of the common sense things that people just don't grasp.

I agree! Not only do you slow down the er vehicle by not yielding, but you put the lives of the drivers and er personel on the line! My hubby is a paid-on-call firefighter and this is an issue that really perturbs me!

My husband and a coworker of his are actually working on a documentary/promotional type piece about this for the news. Any time they have to go code, they end up having to hop to the other side of the street to avoid ignorant drivers.

I agree with everyone, it seems like we're living in a very "me first" society. I can't even count the number of times I've seen people not get out of the way for emergency vehicles or running red lights or doing all sorts of other things that have the potential for a great disaster. I always think "what's so important that they need to endanger someone else's life?". Lately I've really began to believe that courtesy and consideration for others is quickly dying out, it's very sad.
