Icon9 High school sports

My daughter just started her freshman year in high school and has been so happy. She started playing Junior Varsity soccer and was picked captain of the team. Everything was going awesome! Then the varsity coach insisted she move up to the varsity team, even though she really doesn't have the skills to be there. Now, she sits on the bench, lost her captain status and the jv team she got to play the whole game on, and all in all just feels really bad about herself. Last night she sat in the rain for almost 2 hours, and only got to play for 5 minutes. Why would the varsity coach insist she join that team, knowing full well she didn't have the skills to actually play? It breaks my heart to see her feeling so bad about herself and starting to hate a sport she loved until last week. I could wring his neck. The whole point of team sports (in my opinion anyway) is to build self esteem and have fun. This guy has failed her on both counts.
