About to lose it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First let my say hello. I am not new here, just haven't been around in a long time.

Here is my deal. My DH, just joined the Army. It was a decision that I fully supported. I am scared to death, but I support him 150%. I am aware that there are people that think that a man with three kids and a wife shouldn't be joining the Army. I respect their right to their thoughts, however. I DON'T NEED TO HEAR THEM! It seems that every time my in-laws come around they are bad mouthing our decision (in front of our three children). I am so close to telling them not to come around until. DH is back for Christmas. They haven't been supportive at all. They even let him off to basic training knowing that they don't support him. He's a grown man and can handle his own, but my kids don't need that crap!

Sorry to hear your in-laws didn't give their son the support he needed before going off to basic training. Whatever their stand regarding his enlisting was; they should not have said bad things about it in front of your children. I hope things have changed and I pray your husband is doing o.k. Give us an update when you get a chance.

Being in the military I am sure they have counselors that if asked can come around, have a talk with everyone and even the in-laws. They are used to dealing with all kinds of family situations due to the husband being in active duty. Sounds like the in-laws need the most counseling. Whether he was in the military of not they should never express negative opinions in front of the kids. Things like that can really mark a child's mind and even cause self-esteem problems in the children through life.
There are even women leaving for active duty leaving the husband at home. It's scary for kids and they need support more than the one going off to active duty. They need reassuring all the time. I really believe it is best to talk to the military counselors for the children's sake. CC
