Icon10 Something this election taught me..

I was thinking today as I was making a very long boring drive, about the fact that on just about every BB that I participate on (and there are many, ranging in topics from kids, to horses, to bands, to a couple tv shows.. ), the past 4 years have been almost insufferable, the last year- really the last 6 months- in particular. It has seemed that no matter WHERE I'm posting there were ALWAYS 10 Democrats for every 1 Republican. For a little while there, I got a little bit worried that the majority of the population really DID hold beliefs that were that far left.

After seeing that map of the country color coded by county that someone posted, I have decided that more of the left has more time to waste online.

Hmmmm is that why? It's taught me a lot of things about a lot of people. Ann Coulter said, "name-calling has been the principal argument liberals have deployed against conservative arguments". Sad, but so true in the last couple of days I have seen so much childish behavior.

I don't know how many more times I could handle being told that I am a Republican because I am simply uneducated and ignorant. If I had a dime for every time that was said in the last six months, I would be so very rich.

I have never posted here and I hope you don't mind me jumping in to comment.

My BIL found a neat article written by a democrat who was planning to vote for Kerry. Just to do a social experiment, he put on a Kerry/Edwards shirt and went to a very conservative area to spend the day. No one said anything. On a different day he wore a Bush/Cheney shirt and spent the day in a very liberal area. All day long people yelled at him, cussed at him, gossipped about him loudly so he could hear, even SPIT at him. He concluded that liberals are "the squeaky wheel", not the majority. (He still voted for Kerry, but I thank him for the insight.)

In our town, you can drive down a block and see a dozen Kerry signs, but no Bush signs. We live in a VERY conservative town that ALWAYS votes Republican for everything. I'm not saying all liberals are rude, but think about the encounters you've had with the rude ones. They can be downright nasty. Bush supporters don't want to open themselves up to personal attacks.

Sorry for the book. I hope you don't mind that I've added my $.02 without being an active member.

Personally, I think many conservatives have better things to do than to act out like the liberals. I know I do.

I think that conservatives are silently confident. They are not as arrogant and don't feel like they need to shove their beliefs down everybodys throats.

That is why the exit polls were wrong! All the dems wanted to talk about who they voted for,but many conservatives weren't so willing to speak! That is why it looked like Kerry was winning! Don't know if that is the gospel truth(heard it on the news)but it sure sounds about right

I also think conservatives are more reserved!

Good points, everyone!

Amanda, we are glad to have you post here ~ anyone is welcome to share their opinions. I really liked what you quoted about the political tshirt experiment. It is so true that liberals are the squeaky wheels. What an excellent anecdote to illustrate that. Thanks for sharing!

There are never any exit polls done at my polling place, but if there were, I'd be the one being the prick saying I voted democrat. Who's to say I'm not the only one who does that?

Michelle

There was a bored looking woman sitting at the gym doors and as I was waiting for the rest of my party to finish their voting, and she asked me if I'd take a moment to fill out a poll.
There was almost a twitch in my hand that had me checking off answers that were against what I'd voted. Besides checking that I voted for Bush, everything else was skewed as much as I could make it. I suppose it was just another chance to be classless and keep democrats hopes up a little longer. OL

I feel like Conservatives are put up to the fence all the time, and forced to always defend their positions. Dems freely, and over poweringly express their convictions, and quite frankly I have gotten to the point where I don't try to argue with a person anymore. I am beginning to learn that anything said would be skewed or related to terrorist beliefs. I also get tired of my personal beliefs being taken to the extreme. Like if I don't agree with gay marriage I am a bigot, and if I don't like the welfare system I am a cold hearted racist. Why the need for such extreme labeling? I will never understand.
