I'm not impressed w/Border Patrol reform plan
|
"The Guard will assist the Border Patrol by operating surveillance systems, analyzing intelligence, installing fences and vehicle barriers, building patrol roads and providing training," Bush said in a speech from the Oval Office.

Sounds like a sit by and watch and make it look like we are doing something plan to me I don't get why the US cannot take a strong stand and really do something about illegal immigration! (Well, I do...it's all about the almighty $) But still...
|
"For the Border Patrol to effectively do their job, we've got to have a plan in place that reduces the number of people who are trying to sneak across," and a guest worker plan would do that, he said.

Once these 'guest workers' get a taste of the good ol' USA, what makes you think they'll go back home when their work is done here, and actually stay in their own country?
What are your thoughts?

Re: I'm not impressed w/Border Patrol reform plan
Did you read the latest Ann Coulter column re: the illegal issue? I LOVE her so much and generally agree with 99% of what she has to say. She makes great points, but I'm not totally wild about her calling for a new President. Here's a link:
http://www.redstatesusa.com/archives...lips_no_1.html
The entire issue has been mishandled from many, many years ago. Illegals have driven down property values and education systems across southern states for 20+ years. I can't singlehandedly blame Bush for not staunching the flow when nobody else has bothered for all these years, BUT, in a post 9/11 world, I wish someone would please tell me why he is kissing Vicente Fox's a$$!!

As much as I hate to admit it-Bush sees what the libs/bleeding hearts see in the illegals- VICTIMS and VOTERS. Bush must attribute his win to some of the Viva Bush voters -what else could it be? I also think he is viewing things as a "globalist" more so than realizing that we are in trouble as a country. I tell ya' if something is not done soon-our country is not going to be able to absorb this invasion and we are going to buckel underneath the stress on our economy.

Re: I'm not impressed w/Border Patrol reform plan
The invasion has been underway for many, many years. I believe the ONLY reason it's getting attention now is thanks to the Minutemen. The citizen-run crackdown on the boarder has p*ssed off the illegals who have been here for years and that's why they're finally speaking up.
I grew up (ages 6-11 and again from 16-18) in Southern California. The invasion has been trashing the economy, towns, medical and education systems for more than 20 years.
While it appears on the surfact that illegals "help" the economy, in reality they are draining social services and paying ZERO back into the system. I don't care how many times they say they're doing jobs Americans won't do - the reality is, if I could work tax free, I'd love to do it! Who wouldn't?
If you've ever been to a border town (heck, within 200 miles of the border in any state), you've likely seen what they do to the towns. They do not take care of their property, they run down apartment complexes, they trash local retail stores, they essentially turn wherever they are into a barrio like the one they left behind in Mexico. (note - I know many decent Mexicans who are good family people and who DO want to 'melt' into America's melting pot - I reserve the "they" in this discussion to those who scream "Viva La Mexico" while marching in OUR streets, standing on OUR school yards, etc.).
The medical system - dang, I'd be willing to bet the overwhelming majority of the skyrocketing price of medical care has less to do with our aging population than it does with the flood of illegals who don't or won't pay their bills. Every single citizen is absorbing their cost and it's costing us our own decent care and standard of living.
In elementary school, I was in the "gifted" programs. In 4th grade, my teacher had me taking the standardized test for 5th graders and wanted me to skip 5th grade entirely as my scores were off the charts. But, my parents refused saying I needed to stay with my friends. Then, at age 11, I moved to Pennsylvania and WHAM! My grades fell faster than the twin towers. They even had penmanship class - I was SO lost!! Turns out I only appeared to be "gifted" by California standards - the reason being that in our school district, they had to first teach the kids to speak English before they could learn anything else. Those anchor babies dragged down the entire system back then - I can only fathom what another 20 years of this has done to it!
I wish Bush would go visit San Diego / mini Mexico. I wish he'd walk into a Wal-mart where none of the employees spoke English and would slip on a used Pamper in the aisle.
More than that, I wish Congress would adopt MEXICO's foreign visitor policy and implement that here to protect our country.
It's so sad all the way around. I cannot blame the Mexicans for wanting a better life for themselves and their families, but I can blame them for leaving their own country without trying to make the change and coming to OUR country (against the law) to suck off the great strengths of the US.

Re: I'm not impressed w/Border Patrol reform plan
Well, I'm a staunch Republican and immigration is the one issue I'm more 'liberal' on. I DO think we need to get strict on the border though. We can't correct the issue til the border is secure.

Re: I'm not impressed w/Border Patrol reform plan
From the L.A Times:
1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.
2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.
10. In L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak Spanish (10.2 million people in L.A.County).
(All the above from the Los Angeles Times)
Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare.
Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration.
The cost of immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was, (after subtracting taxes immigrants pay),a NET $70 BILLION a year, [Professor Donald Huddle,Rice University].
The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE number.
29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.
If they can come to this country to raise Hell and demonstrate by the thousands, why can't they take charge over the corruption in their own country?
We are a bunch of fools for letting this continue.
THE U.S. VS MEXICO: On February 15, 1998, the U.S. and Mexican soccer teams met at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The crowd was overwhelmingl y pro-Mexican even though most lived in this country.
They booed during the National Anthem and U.S. flags were held upside down. As the match progressed, supporters of the U.S. team were insulted, pelted with projectiles, punched and spat upon. Beer and trash were thrown at the U.S. players before and after the match. The coach of the U.S. team, Steve Sampson said, "This was the most painful experience I have ever had in this profession."
Did you know that immigrants from Mexico and other non-European countries can come to this country and get preferences in jobs, education, and government contracts?
It's called affirmative action or racial privilege. The Emperor of Japan or the President of Mexico could migrate here and immediately be eligible for special rights unavailable for Americans of European descent.
Corporate America has signed on to the idea that minorities and third world immigrants should get special, privileged status. Some examples are Exxon, Texaco, Merrill Lynch, Boeing, Paine Weber, Starbucks and many more.
DID YOU KNOW?: That Mexico regularly intercedes on the side of the defense in criminal cases involving Mexican nationals?
Did you know that Mexico has NEVER extradited a Mexican national accused of murder in the US. in spite of agreements to do so?
According to the L.A. Times, Orange County, California is home to 275 gangs with 17,000 members; 98% of which are Mexican and Asian. How's your county doing?
According to a New York Times article dated May 19, 1994, 20 years after the great influx of legal immigrants from Southeast Asia, 30% are still on welfare compared to 8% of households nationwide.
A Wall Street Journal editorial dated December 5, 1994 quotes law enforcement officials as stating that Asian mobsters are the "greatest criminal challenge the country faces." Not bad for a group that is still under 5% of the population.
Is education important to you? Here are the words of a teacher who spent over 20 years in the Los Angeles School system. "Imagine teachers in classes containing 30-40 students of widely varying attention spans and motivation, many of whom aren't fluent in English.
Educators seek learning materials likely to reach the majority of students and that means fewer words and math problems and more pictures and multicultural references."
WHEN I WAS YOUNG: I remember hearing about the immigrants that came through Ellis Island. They wanted to learn English. They wanted to breathe free. They wanted to become Americans. Now, far too many immigrants come here with demands. They demand to be taught in their own language. They demand special privileges--affirmative action. They demand ethnic studies that glorify their culture.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?: Send copies of this letter to at least two other people, 100 would be even better.
Help us get the word out. California Coalition for Immigration Reform, 5942 Edinger, Suite 113-117, Huntington Beach, CA 92649
