Icon5 Pet Issues

For my fellow Dems:

What are your pet issues, the issues that really get you excited??

With regard to our opposition, what is the one thing (if you can name just one) that just makes you insane?

Embryonic stem cell research has become my new favorite issue (I just sent a scathing letter to my representatiev last week on this issue). Of course separation of church and state is always a big one as is the environment. All social-justice issues score high with me.

The thing that makes me the craziest is the stranglehold that the radical religious right seems to have on the Republican party.
It also drives me insane that somehow the Republican party has convinced Americans to vote against their own economic self-interest.

I agree. They should have their own party. Then the Republicans couldn't hide behind the "moral" agenda and would have to face up to how their fiscal policy has strayed so far from the roots of the Republican party.

I criticize people for voting Republican against their economic interests too. I guess technically I am voting against my economic interests by voting Democratic, but I feel like I have enough money that I can spare some extra money in taxes for the good of our society. And while we may be doing OK financially, the difference between us and the people at the very top of the ecomic ladder is astronomical. If I can pay more taxes, they sure as hell can too.

You are absolutely right about that! Someone once mentioned to me that wealthy people who vote Dem. are also voting against their own economic self-interest. I hadn't considered that before, but it is true. Although voting to give yourself more money at the expense of those less-fortunate is disgusting. Voting to give yourself less money but helping those in need with the extra tax money is at least a conscienable decision.
