The thing that makes me the craziest is the stranglehold that the radical religious right seems to have on the Republican party.

I agree. They should have their own party. Then the Republicans couldn't hide behind the "moral" agenda and would have to face up to how their fiscal policy has strayed so far from the roots of the Republican party.
I criticize people for voting Republican against their economic interests too. I guess technically I am voting against my economic interests by voting Democratic, but I feel like I have enough money that I can spare some extra money in taxes for the good of our society. And while we may be doing OK financially, the difference between us and the people at the very top of the ecomic ladder is astronomical. If I can pay more taxes, they sure as hell can too.
