My mom is a very great quilter and has been helping me get started. I really like it so far. as soon as I find what my baby is in a couple weeks we are going to start making the crib bedding.

I'm a quilter

I've only made a handful of quilts, mostly traditional. I go to the International Quilt Festival in Chicago with my quilting mother every year. Usually we take classes but with a new baby we've just gone without taking classes.

My first one I did the peicing by machine and the quilting by hand but now that my time is so limited I've been doing all of it on machine except the binding.

Here is a photo of my last quilt. It's the Lover's Knot, also known as Linked Chevrons by Marti Michelle (not sure I spelled her name right). I put little clovers in each of the setting triangles on my machine and stiched in the ditch for the rest of it.

I would love to share ideas and give and take advice

I've made two quilts, but I don't really think they could be counted as such, since they didn't have very many pieces. I'm interested in making a quilt for a friend who's having a baby this summer, but I'm having trouble deciding on the pattern. I found these really nice colours at walmart the other day, so I already have fabric. The problem I'm having is that I don't really wanted something very complicated, but I don't really wanted to haved a bunch of squares.

Strip peicing is an awesome technique that you can make tops fast with little effort. The quilt I made above I made in a single day. It's just cutting 2" (actually 1.5" in that one" and sewing the length of the strips together. Then you cut them, turn the block and then sew it back together. Rail fence is the easist strip peicing technique that makes a great baby quilt when made with baby fabrics.

Here's a pattern: Rail Fence Quilt Pattern

You just sew three strips of different fabric together, cut them and turn them a different direction and sew them back together. It's easiest to make the strips with a cutting mat, rotary cutter and ruler. I bought a ruler with a built in cutter at Walmart for $30 and it's the best money I ever spent. It also makes it easier for cutting your borders.

My great grandmother used to make quilts. So did my gram and all her sisters. But they didnt teach us to quilt. I have the last quilt my grandmother made. I have it put up so that nothing will happen to it.
