I don't know exactly what they are called but you know they chains woman (and men) wear around their necks that attach to their glasses? The kind that you can take your glasses off and they hang down from around your neck when you are not using them. Well I am allergic to metal an most of the ones available in stores have some or all metal on them. I found 5 beaded ones at a dollar store several years ago and have really used the heck out of them. One broke so was down to 4. Then my mother told me they sold the little eye glass parts at the craft store so I went and bought enough to make 8 new beaded eyeglass chains. I had so much fun! I rummaged through all my beads and came up with a box of Scrapbook beads and wire that I had bought that had beautiful colors already paired together. Then I went through my larger beads and pulled out lamp work glass beads in pink and purple and green and red. I also went back to the craft store for more plain white and clear beads (I ran out of those, was using them for accent) and while there picked up some pillow beads with flowers on them in a soft aqua with aqua Swarovski crystals and pale green flower pillow beads with green Swarovski crystals. The tricky part of beading the chains was making sure that I left enough beading wire at the end to finish my pattern but not to much. All eight turned out stunning. I wore one to the flea market Sunday morning and got complement after complement on it. I even had one woman ask me if I could make her one. I told her I didn't think I could get those particular beads anymore. I now know I could get at least part of the beads but by the time I would charge how much the beads cost as well as minimum wage for the hour and a half it would take to bead it it would cost $16 and I don't think anyone would pay that much. I want to make two more, a orange and black one for around Halloween and I have these shimmery gold and silver beads I want to do a second Christmas eyeglass chain with just have to find the right big beads for both of them. I'll be on "Bead Alert" until my mission is accomplished!
