Icon5 Who is Labor Law Savy?

Ok, so I just started working for this big company, who knew I was 6 weeks pregnant when they hired me by the way- and this company I have come to find out has a policy that says that if you have worked for them for LESS than ONE YEAR, that if you take maternity leave they FORCE you to quit

There is a girl in my department who has worked there for 10 1/2 months and due to give birth any day and was told if she takes maternity leave that she will be forced to quit and can re-apply afterwards if she wishes.

Now, something doesnt seem legal to me about this. What say you?

Yes they can do that. According to federal Law all companies has to offer FMLA to there employees. It says that you have to work for that for a year before you become eligible. A company make let employees be eleigible sooner if they want to. I was working at a McDonalds for 4mons before having my baby. They did the samething. You can talk to a lawer if you want, but they'll tell you the same thing. Just look up FMLA or Pregnancy discrimination act on the web and you can find all the info you need.

Yeah, I found out they can do that. It doesnt seem right that they have Pregnancy Discrimination Laws to protect pregnant women who are looking for work, but yet no one gives a damn about you when you have that kid within working for company for less than one year

I am not even looking for benefits of any kind or paid leave- I just want my job after my 6 week leave of absence. The GOV't is screwed up royally
