Have you had luck starting an item at a low bid (like 99 cents) and having people bid it up or do you end up selling the item for less than you hoped?

Do you think people associate a low starting bid with a lower quality item?

I have had things go for lower and higher than what I expected but lately they have been going lower.

I only start things at 0.99 that I know will go up. or things I don't care if I want to sell or not.
