Hollywood Diet...
Has anyone here ever tried it? Did it actually work? I'm the type of person who needs to shed the first few pounds fast and SEE the results to have the motivation to keep going.
I currently take Stacker2 twice a day, eat Special K w/ fruit for breakfast, drink Slim-fast & eat a raw veggie for lunch and eat a "normal" dinner with my family. I count all my calories on Fitday and I exercise at least a couple times a week. I am not loosing anything, simply "maintaining" my current weight. I'm almost 5'5 and I weigh 162lbs so I am considered overweight & HATE the way I look yet anything else I've tried has gotten me NO WHERE!
So if you have ever taken the Hollywood weekend diet what was your experience? Did it actually work? TIA!

Re: Hollywood Diet...
I actually was stupid enough to try it years ago. It made me sick as a dog. Not eating for 48 hours is bad bad bad! If you do manage to stick to it for the 48 hours the weight comes right back when you eat normal again because all it does is drain your body of water.
I honestly believe the only way to lose weight is to exercise and eat healthy keeping your daily intake within a certain calorie range.

Re: Hollywood Diet...
personally...i think one needs to do it healthy. i have tried diet pills, never had any luck with them though. unless you count the stacker 2 making me throw up! i use them as a jump start, not as a..its the only way i can lose weight.
i would seriously relook at everything you are doing. to me, it doesnt look healthy at all. sure you may lose the weight, and lose it fast...but keeping it off is going to be near impossible. have you looked at other ways to lose weight? i started weight watchers a month ago and have lost almost 5lbs..sure not a lot of weight loss, but im doing it healthy. AND im changing the way i eat, not just for now, but for all ways.

First, I agree with everyone about pills... it is just a crutch and you need to learn to stand on your own two feet without the crutch if you want to work at maintaining once you reach your goal. As for the Hollywood Diet...anything that prohibits me from eating certain foods, just makes me crave them more until 2 days later I'm bingeing on anything and everything. That's why I took to Weight Watchers because you can eat whatever you want...
Foodwise... your meals "sound" good...but you didn't exactly say what a "normal" dinner was? Or what your total calorie intake was? The first thing I discovered when I started Weight Watchers was what I thought was a "normal" dinner was actually the size of 3 meals!! WW thought me portion control...which is soo important!! The other thing is you need to work in low-cal, low-fat snacks into your day. (Like fruit...also I'm partial to Kashi bars.) It's good to eat "mini-meals" throughout the day or at least have a snack between meals to keep your body fueled and also so you don't over eat at dinner. BUT you need to remember to keep your calorie intake down. (I'm sure fitday has a chart on how many calories you need to eat to "lose" weight...many charts go by BMR and that's what you need to maintain... you need to go under that to lose...)
Another thing that speeds up weight loss (believe it or not) is weight training...doesn't have to be alot (I'm only doing 10 lb weights). Not only does weight training work at toning your body but it speeds up your metabolism... and, yes, muscle weighs more than fat but it helps your body breakdown fat faster so it all balances out...I've always lost weight when I started lifting...it's not like I'm doing these giant weights and am "bulking up"--just enough to get the body burning calories. Plus it helps with strengthening your bones!! (Which I need because of Osteoporosis that runs in my family.)
Lastly, drink about half your body weight in oz of Water... so at 162...you should be drinking 81 oz a day. I don't always practice what I preach because water isn't my favorite especially in the winter but I do know how important it is and do see better results when I do drink. Another solution...which is what I do... is decaf Green Tea with splenda... same calories as water, it's decaf so it counts as a water and you get the benefits of Green Tea which also helps speed up weight loss... don't know how but it works!!!
Anyway... good luck and welcome to the board... and just so you know, I'm Maria (40) and have been on this board since Feb. 2003. I reached my goal by July 2003 and maintained or lost more until December 2003 when personal issues caused me to gain weight (18 lbs)... several failed attempts, personal drawbacks (like 2 surgeries and a cancer scare) and a lot of yo-yo'ing later... I'm actually below my old goal but a little up from my lowest I've been recently. I stick around here because if I didn't I'd start going back up the yo-yo...these girls are great support! Anyway...maintaining is very hard as well but you need to make "lifestyle" changes and not look for quick fix like a "fad diet". Good Luck!!
You can do it!!

Re: Hollywood Diet...
OK today was day 1 of the Hollywood diet & amazingly enough I'm not starving or sick as a dog like I expected I would be. I just hope this gives me a good "jumpstart" to my diet so I can continue on and hopefully not stray too far.
I'm almost out of Stacker and don't plan on buying any more, as my best friend & I agreed that I can't take Stacker for the rest of my life. I used to be doing great with my diet but I managed to fall off the bandwagon when we moved b/c it was easier to grab take out or make something quick. And since then I've just been slacking.
My New Years resolution was to start over and do good again and that is when I started the Special K/fruit/slim-fast/veggie diet.
A "normal meal" for my family is a meat/potato/veggie. Some examples of common meals we eat are:
Chicken breasts, baked potatoes and carrots
Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans
Lasagna, garlic bread & salad
Pork Chops, Lipton rice or noodles, and peas
Tacos with rice
Fish sticks, french fries & broccoli
Mac & cheese w/ hot dogs and peas
Ham & Scallop potatoes w/ corn
My total calorie intake for a normal day is any where between 1100-1300 and I drink about 64oz of water a day (Eight 8oz glasses).

Re: Hollywood Diet...
I don't know anything about the Hollywood diet, but by looking at what your eating, your calorie count is way too loe. If your calorie deficit is too low, your body will hold onto everything you take in and will eventually start eating away at your muscle. With weight loss, the bottom line is less calories in and more calories out= weight loss. 1 lb of body fat = 3500 calories. For me, it takes my body some time to shed anything, and then when it does, it is usually a lb a week. If I eat too little, like today...My deficit is already 7-something for the day, I will hold onto the weight or even gain.

Re: Hollywood Diet...
my feelings..you may do well on it, but once you start eating again, you are going to gain that weight right back. its a quick fix. i remember when the hollywood diet first came out and it was promoted as the quick fix for that party on friday...
calories need to stay above 1200. otherwise you do go into starvation mode. im also looking at your normal meals. and i wouldnt have caught this if someone hadnt pointed out my meals to me...
Chicken breasts, baked potatoes and carrots protein, carb, carb
Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans protein, carb, veggie
Lasagna, garlic bread & salad protein, carb, veggie
Pork Chops, Lipton rice or noodles, and peas protein, carb, carb
Tacos with rice very little protein, lots of carb, carb
Fish sticks, french fries & broccoli sort of protein, lots of fat, carb with lots of fat, veggie
Mac & cheese w/ hot dogs and peas carb, hot dogs have no nutrional value, carb
Ham & Scallop potatoes w/ corn protein, carb and carb
your main meals are not a balanced diet, especially if those are the only meals you are eating. most are carb loaded...only a couple were well balanced. im preaching to myself too corn, carrots and peas are all carb veggies... go with broccoli, green beans, salad (and not iceberg!). before my move i wasdoing really well on the balanced meals, but have fallen apart since moving... and im working on that. but try to have all 3... protein, a small amount of carbs, and lots of veggies (not the starchy). something like the ham and scallop pototes with corn... put the ham on the side, have a serving size of the potatos, and then have broccoli or green beans or salad or something else with it. i was told to fill half my plates with the non-starchy veggies.. i measure them out as im on WW.
