embedded advertising

WHY! Why would anyone ever think this is a good idea?

Good question Bridget.

This has ticked off (and offended) more posters than any other thing that SK hs done. Using one's own words to advertise is crass and wrong.

There are loyal posters here who are considering moving after this final ad campaign. (I know of a few very active boards who are considering leaving.)

A rational answer or discussion would be nice, instead of just an announcement that no one can leave feedback on.

This is so freaking ridiculous. Yeah, I know the concern is when it's a paid membership, people don't pay. Guess what. Keep up this in your face, who cares what you think advertising campaign and no one will *stay* either. I no longer feel like we're on the same side. At all. AT ALL.

Ditto that.

With paid memberships, of course not *everyone* is going to pay-- but there will be more then enough people to fund the board, and then some. Even if only 15% of those on the board bought a paid membership, with as many people who are active and longtime members of this board, that would still MORE then pay for this board.
But it seems that they just aren't willing to give that concept- or us, since that's what it would be- a chance.

You can put whatever ads you want around the boards. But when you start embedding YOUR advertisements into MY thoughts and words, you've crossed a line. You guys need to make a decision. Do you want to have these boards, or do you want to make money? Because they don't go hand in hand.

I really like the suggestion someone made on one of the other boards about at least having a pay membership option where it would eliminate the advertising features. Most of them really don't bother me, like the "redirecting" one or the pop-ups b/c I have a blocker for those, but I do admit this one right now where it underlines words is kinda annoying. But I do really like the suggestion about a feature where ppl CAN pay to opt out of the advertising, seems like that would make both the site owners and people who are constantly annoyed and complaining about the advertising bits, happy.

The green underlined words have been removed! Thanks for your concern, ladies!
