TTC using know donor

Anyone have any comments for me on using a known donor with at home insemination with fresh sperm.. would love to hear some tips on at home with sucesss..thanks alot

I have never done inseminations at home with fresh sperm, but I do know that the success rates are higher than with frozen sperm and that your timing does not need to be as exact because fresh sperm live a lot longer. Will you be able to do more than one insemination per cycle? If so, you might be able to do one when your cervical mucus is most fertile and one ~24 hours after your LH surge.

We inseminated at home with a known donor. It was very convenient. We never went the whole frozen route, so I'm not sure what all would be involved with the timing there. We would typically just call our donor and tell him "we think it's time" and he would come to our place 2-3 times. Usually every other day. Our last cycle (got BFP) we had taken clomid and were not sure when DP was going to ovulate for sure. Our donor was pretty flexible as he lived nearby. He was at our house for 7 days straight. We had kind of an odd situation (I think anyways) in that we do not know our donor outside of our TTC process. He answered an ad we had posted. He was very professional about the whole thing, and he was great, but I am not sure I would go the same route with a "personal" friend.

mum- where did you advertise this? Did you guys have him sign something legal?

We had posted an ad on gayfamilyoptions.org. I think it is still up there actually. He had done private donations in the past and he had his own paperwork, as well as the stuff that we had made up. Our paperwork was 99.9% the same. His included an extra clause in it stating that he had no input on naming said child. We ended up just signing the legal forms the he had made.

Did any of you see the New York Times Magazine this weekend? The cover story was about gay men and lesbians creating families. Very interesting.
