Summer Chit Chat IV
This is a discussion on Summer Chit Chat IV within the TTC - Gay/Lesbian forums, part of the Trying to Conceive - People Like You category; Ok, here's the new chatty thread....
Hi Everyone.
Care-Congrats!!! Twins are sooo fun, plus it's like buy one get one free
Well it looks like I will be sitting out July as well, I am on day 34 and still no sign of AF. The Dr called me at work but didn't leave a message so I knew it must be bad news. My bloodwork came back and they said my thyroid was elevated, my liver function was abnormal and it looks like I may have diabetes. I go on 7/31 for a pre diabetes consult. oh and P.S. I never get sick so this was all very shocking to me. they didn't say how this would affect my chances of having a child....does anyone know? I was really down first the PCOS and now this, I keep saying it's my sign I won't have any children

Shannon- I definitely don't think it's a sign that you won't have any children! Remember, I have crappy eggs. There's always a way, and many women with PCOS go on to have children.
The diabetes, as I understand it, is VERY related to the PCOS. Your body produces insulin different with PCOS, and many people are put on a low glucose diet (proteins, only whole grain carbs, better sources of fruits and veggies- some are high on the glysemic (sp?) index). Did your RE start you on Metformin? I know lots of PCOS girls are on that as well. (I'm definitely not an RE, but I did learn a lot about PCOS from a infertility support group.)
As for the thyroid, lots of people have thyroid problems and don't even know it. DP has an abnormal thyroid, and it goes through stages. It hasn't affected her in years.
Don't give up! Some of us are challenged more than others.

Shannon, I'm hypothyroid and have been for years. I always wondered if this was at all related to my IF problems. It has been controlled via medicine for years, though, and I think that's the most important thing. Thyroid problems can be related to IF but I think it is mostly in women who have undiagnosed problems and are not being treated for it. Did they say whether you are hypo- or hyperthyroid? The treatment differs--at least at first. My mom is the opposite of me, she's hyperthyroid.
I agree with Carrie about PCOS and diabetes being linked. I think Metformin may even be a diabetes drug.
The good news is that you may have found the source of your IF problems and now they can be fixed and you can get pregnant. I also think you will probably feel better physically after you are treated for these things. I don't know how you could have an undiagnosed thyroid problem b/c when mine got bad I thought I must be seriously ill! I felt much better after I went on meds. Good luck and feel free to ask me more questions.

Shannon- PCOS and Diabetes are often related. I have some PCO symptoms, but do not have PCOS nor do I have Diabetes...
Ok, now i have to share my funny cat story...
One day (years ago) Julie came home for lunch and saw our cat sitting outside (at the time our cat was an indoor only cat) So she grabbed Monty and tossed him in the door thinking to herself "that's weird, he must have gotten out when Patty left." She went about the apt making herself a sandwich to be interupted by massive hissing. She looked up and there were TWO orange cats in the living room hissing at each other (we only had ONE cat at the time)So she grabbed one of the cats and tossed it out the door. The funning thing is she was not sure if she grabbed the right cat or not...AND she did not tell me for a few days cause she was trying to see if I knowtice Monty acting weird...

Hey Shannon - sorry about the rigamaroo. My heart goes out to you. Please keep us updated!
I'm now 6 DPO - and feeling much more calm than I have been feeling previous months, which is great. I know if this cycle doesn't work, I'm taking a month off and I'm okay with that too.
Suellen - how is your month off going?

Hi everyone thanks for all the info. they haven't told me much yet i go on the 31st for a pre diabetes consult with my RE, he did infact mention metformin actually that is what they gave DP for her PCOS. I thought I was just feeling sick because of the stress and all the working, so I didn't mention it to anyone, Im not a big complainer. My nurse assigned to me called me back and went over the tests more, i have to go next week for more bloodwork but she said as long as they get my insulin under control I should be able to start trying again in a couple of months. This is such a big shock because I am the healthiest person I know, DP always complains we always have to eat "rabbit" food.
Thanks for listening to me rant

Shannon- I'm sorry about all of your frustrations! I know it totally sucks when you think you are doing everything right and then things don't work out. Uggh!
Jess- When will you test? Do you have a progesterone test coming up (or did you have it)?
Suellen- When is this month off over? It seems like it's been FOREVER!

Shannon - I'm so sorry. That sounds really frustrating.
Care - I'll test next Friday. My progesterone was 20 something - definitely lower than last cycle, but Dr. says she's only looking for a result over 20, so I'm good.
We'll see!

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile - things just got a little crazy with the whole cat thing. Then, I went to MI to visit my parents and attend a wedding, so I've been busy (which is a good thing!)
Shannon - I'm sorry you are going through so much. Just keep having faith that it will work out (which it will!!!!!). We are all here for you.
Jes - It sounds like your 2ww is going well. That's great. Things are always much easier if you don't stress about them. (easier said than done usually!)
My month off will be over relatively soon. I end birth control on Saturday so should visit next week. I've been keeping pretty busy with my stupid cat (who is giving me great practice for having a baby since she keeps you up ALL night long) and visiting my family. Next week I have band camp and then I am going to see my sister next weekend. Then it will only be a few days until the insemination!!!!! YEA!!!!!!!!
I am a little worried about taking clomid again because I don't want another cyst, but I also want to make sure I ovulate this month (can't birth control mess that up for a while????) I guess I'm just nervous either way, but it's nice to be able to start to think about it again!
Hope you are all well!

Suellen- I'm glad the month is almost over. I had a cyst doing my IUIs too. Luckily, I was on Lupron for all of my IUIs so I only had to suppress for a week to get rid of the cyst. I don't know about BCPs and ovulation. Hopefully, it won't cause a problem.
Sorry your cat has been up all night. You're right! Good practice!

Hi ladies! Thanks for the encouragement for Friday
suellen - don't fret about the bcbs. They are used for fertility treatments all the time.
S - thinking of you and hoping all is well.
You all may want to check out Fresh Air with Terri Gross on 7/17 -
It wa a GREAT interview with Peggy Orenstein, a woman who write an article for the NYT magazine on Sunday (I'm not sure if it was last Sunday or next) on donor eggs. She also write a book called WAITING FOR DAISY about her own experiences with infertility.
I'm not (yet) using donor eggs, but this radio program really spoke to me! It was a fantastic interview. I highly recommend checking it out.
I don't know if there are any other public radio freaks out there, but Fresh Air repeats are available on podcasts or on the NPR website.
Jess- Thanks for the NPR link. I listened to it. I thought she was even better in the interview than the article in the NYT Magazine. I liked hearing her stories too. I'm going to post the link you posted on the IVF board where A posted the story.
It's almost Friday!

Oh WOW!!!!! That's great!
I understand why you are trying not to get excited, but I'm pretty excited for you!!!!!! Did you schedule something with your RE or are you gonna wait a few days?

I know what it's like to not want to get too excited. I'm still that way sometimes. Since it's taken so long, I feel like it could go wrong. KWIM? Take it one step at a time. A line no matter how faint is good! What kind of test was it? Early or just regular?
I'm crossing my fingers for a good beta!
