Icon5 How long can those swimmers live outside?

Hi everyone, I have been lurking around this forum for quite some time...a bit about myself..

I am 23 and my partner is 22, we have been ttc for 2 months now (about to undergo second month of insem! We have questions for anyone out there who have attempted at home inseminations before.

We are using fresh sperm that we are picking up from our donors house and then driving out to another location before inseminating (roughly 20mins after ejaculation). In this time we are keeping the little swimmers at body temp by keeping the container snuggled between my legs. We are concerned that this 20min timeframe may be too long and the lil swimmers may be dying off before they even get the chance to try to find the egg. So we are basically wanting to know if anyone out there has waited this long with fresh sperm before self-inseminating with success??

Also, any other pointers you could give us would be absolutely awesome and more than welcome!! We are temping, using the maybe baby ferning scope, using OPK's, checking CM and CP to detect ovulation and thats working a charm!!

Thanks for any help!!

I don't do home/fresh inseminations but I believe you should be ok, I hear most people say as long as it is within the first 30 minutes that is all that matters. Good Luck and Keep us posted!!!!

Hello and Welcome. DP and I are doing insems at home with known donor and fresh. We have gone that long to insem and it did work for us once. Unfortunately it was an ectopic pregnancy. The sooner you can get them in, the better. They do start to die off a lot more significantly after 30 minutes. We are now trying to get them in before 15 minutes. Good luck to you and I hope it works quickly for you.

Oh wow!! We are also doing home insem tonight!! Great, now I will have someone tp pester who is in the tww with me!! Yes we have found a closer location to our donor so hopefully we will have inseminated before the 15-20min mark...but I guess thats just if all goes well with traffic and all!! I'm excited to go ahead this time, this is only our second month of ttc and although the first time was dissapointing when it was not a success it was a good run through!! So fingers crossed for this time round for the both of us!!

Good, good luck for tonight! Keep posting about how it goes!!

Sweettulip, How goes it? Are you having any symptoms? Have you gotten a positive or a negative yet? Curious to know what is going on with you. Let us know.

Hi Stacy and Amber, Sorry its been awhile! On 7DPO I was struck down with a irus, had extremely high temps for the past 4 days, but am feeling a lot better today...just a little fluey. I am 11DPO now and have not tested. I usually have a irregular cycle and my Specialist is querying PCOS at the moment, but luckily for me my last four cycles have been between 31 and 35 day cycles So I should be due for AF in 6days!! I'm guessing its still too early to test so I'm just going to wait to see if AF arrives!!

Although its been hard to determine whether or not I have had many symptoms due to being sick this is what I have had...
Sore left nip from about 4DPO, then BB sore from about 9DPO. I dont usually get BB pain even with AF so it is definately unusual but of course could be from being ill as my whole body has been aching
Throughout illness I would wake up in the night many times to pee and feeling nausious (kept food by the bed which helped immensely), but that also can be put down to being sick as I couldnt eat much, so I would get hungry at weird times.
Nosebleed (Have heard this can be a symptom and I never get them so who knows)
and I have had a weird sensation in my uterus area, especially towards the right side which I could feel quite definately when I cough.

How about you? Any symptoms yet??

Sweettulip, those sound like some promising symptoms. Amber has been having all kinds of symptoms, but we chalk it up to being psychosematic. Her cycles are pretty irregular as well and this is our first month to insem her. We haven't really tracked her cycles until now. Last month her cycle was 32 days and the month before that was 30. We didn't keep track before that, but sometimes it would be as long as 6 weeks between. So we are just waiting. We will probably test again on Friday if she hasn't started.
