Icon5 At Home Insem

Hi all. I'm still a little new around here but wanted to ask if anyone has had experience with inseminating at home with frozen sperm. How was the experience? How many times did you try per cycle? How much luck is there for this method in your opinion? Any resources to share? Or any other tidbit to share would be helpful. I also just learned that in some states it's illegal to insem at home. How can I find out if my state is included in that list? Thanks in advance for any help, or input.

Sorry, I'm not going to be much help because I do IUI's, but I wanted to say good luck. I didn't know it was illegal in some states. That sucks. I do know some sperm banks (mine included) will only ship to the doc's office.

Thanks Joanna, the one we are thinking about using will ship to your home providing a doctor signs off on it. We are still in the info gathering/planning stage and trying to figure out our best options. We'd like to keep it as intimate as possible without exam tables and such. Although I am getting a little discourage b/c most of the what I'm finding isn't supporting home insems.

Yea, we thought about doing home insems but, decided against it. There are just soooooo many variables. Now that I know I am a poor responder I am glad we did not waist any time trying at home.

If you (the one carrying) have VERY regular menses then I think that at home could work. If your is not regular then you may want to reconsider. I would suggest start charting now so you can see how regular you are.

You will need to get a needless syringe and at catheter. The vials they send are really small and a catheter is needed to get to bottom of the vial easily. My doctor gave us one to start and we ordered more online. "The Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth" by Toevs and Brill gives great how to information on home insemination. It also has good information on tracking your fertility signs. I think Fairfax Cryobank will ship anywhere with a doctor's approval.

So far my cycles haven't been regular. They have run 26-28 days. But we really want to try at home for at least two months before considering using the assistance of a doctor.

Heather, thanks for the tip on the catheter, never would have thought about that! LMAO. Right now I'm reading "The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy For Lesbians" By Rachel Pepper. I'll have to check out the book you mentioned also. Right now we are looking at Northwest Andrology & Cryobank has anyone had experience or known someone who's had experience with this bank? Heard anything?

I would say that 26-28day cy are pretty regular if you are O'ing each cy then you are regular.
