Hi ladies. It's been forever, I'm sure most of you don't remember me and I see a few new names but some time ago I was becoming something of a regular around here. My partner and I put a hold on the baby process because we were given the awesome opportunity to buy a house and had to move and all kinds of stuff like that. Now we are ready to start trying again, and I am at such a loss! We lost contact with the guy who was going to be our donor, a lot of stuff changed in his life since then. And I am just really wary about finding a donor online, you know? But we just don't know any, and while we are not exactly broke or anything a sperm bank is just a little out of our league. Not to mention that we live in a town of like 20,000 in Nebraska, so there isn't one anywhere near us and even finding a doctor who will work with us requires a two hour drive. I'm looking for some support! I remember this being a great place to go for that. Congrats to all who are expecting, and baby dust to all who are still trying!

Janna,
Welcome back and good luck getting started again. I don't know anything about finding a donor who is willing to give fresh sperm, so good luck with that. Will you be doing IUIs at the doctor's? I know some sperm banks will ship sperm practically anywhere, so it wouldn't matter if you are in the middle of nowhere.

Janna welcome back. You may want to try this website.http://www.gayfamilyoptions.org/ under ad directory there is a listing of states. Of course I checked Nebraska and there were no ads, but you could place one.

I do agree with A most all the sperm banks ship ANYWHERE!

Hi
I just wanted to welcome you back and wish you good luck
I don't have any donor info for you. We used a bank in CA and had it sent here to CT. but I'm sure someone here can give you advice on "live" donors.

Hi there,

Welcome back!

I understand the financial concerns with sperm banks. It's definitely been a strain for us and it's looking like the cost has become prohibitive for us. This may be our last try because of that. If I'm correct, I see you already have a child. I'm guessing it's not possible to use the same donor? How did you find that person? I don't know anything about finding a live donor, and frankly it scares me a bit. How are you ensuring they're free of disease? And how are you ensuring this person won't come back to demand parenting rights? Hopefully I'm not sounding preachy; given the cost of sperm banks, I'm also trying to think of other options for sperm.

Your location is also tough, though hopefully you're able to find a doctor to work with. You can, of course, always attempt home inseminations which effectively eliminates the need to see the doctor as much. The chances of successful conception are a bit less than IUI, but certainly feasible.

If you haven't already, I strongly recommend reading the book, "The New Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth" by Stephanie Brill. It's a little dense in places (because it's so chock-full of info), but it's got lots of important information.

Stay in touch! I'd love to know how you're doing.

All the best,
Max

Hi ladies! Thanks for all the replies. Just to clear the air, MaxMom, our 3 year old was actually conceived by my partner in her previous heterosexual relationship. Her father...well, lets just say I don't even want to know if he'd be willing to do it. We are having a little luck, a good friend of mine has offered to donate but he lives in Texas so right now we're brainstorming ways to make that work. He'll get some tests done, which we'll pay for, to be sure he doesn't have any diseases or anything like that. Now the challenge is figuring out how to get the sperm where it needs to be when it needs to be there. I'll keep you updated!
