Default Wondering....

I have a 2 yr old son, will be 3 in Oct. I started potty training about a week ago. We went to a Lake on vacation and I told him that if he kept his shorts dry and told us when he had to go potty he could have a special surprise. He fell for it and it worked like a charm. So when we returned home I went to Family Doller and bought a bunch of doller toys and put them in a basket. Now he knows that if he tells us he has to go, and makes it to the potty...the majority of the day, he gets a special surprise at the end of the day.
I think he is doing pretty good. He has about 2-3 accidents in his undies a day. No poopy only pee. I was just wondering what you would consider "being Potty trained". I usually dont put a diaper on him at all during the day (unless we go somewhere)..my gramma told me I should keep a diaper off him during the day but still use them at night. AM I doing this wrong by putting one on him when we go places?
Does anyone have any tips or ideas to help me out? I am just unsure of how I am doing or how he is doing rather....I have another one to train right behind him...so I really wanna make sure I know what I am doing, LOL, if that makes any sense. Thanks

Potty training varies from kid to kid, so there isn't one right way. Sounds like he's doing pretty good! IMO, I would let him go w/o the diapers when you go out. You might take a quick trip to the grocery store (or other store) and show him where the bathrooms are when he has to go. Don't be surprised if he doesn't like the flush though. (They ARE very loud and can be scary to a young kid!) Then go back home and just make your trips a little longer each time. Carry a potty chair with you in your car/van if you can too. That helps in case of emergencies. (Don't forget some wipes and a few bottles of water to wipe out the chair! )

I also agree with your grandmother to keep the diapers off him during the day if you can help it. Just put them on at night until he shows that he can keep it dry. (That might take much longer. Usually docs don't get concerned until the boys have hit around 6-7 yrs old.) Otherwise, yer doing fine and I hope he continues to do good!
