Ug. My battle with day 1 potty training...
I have a 2-1/2 year old boy and am pregnant with #2 at around 21 weeks along. To say he is a strong willed, energetic child is an understatement. I had read thepottytrainer.com e-book and wanted to give this my all today as day one as we had a little potty for months now and he has been getting used to it and us going pee and poo on the potty for a bit. Day one of underwear...
Well, I figured if I was going to do this, that I was going to have him go cold turkey. People that I have talked to say don't use pull-ups and really after staring the price at a glance (23 pull ups for about 10$) scared me. That could have been only a few days I am realizing now. I set my timer throughout the day and he was kind of like Pavlov's dog, but just a few minutes too late. It would seem I could tell he had to go pee and he did. Just about a minute or two after we left the bathroom....
It was a good thing I had his clothes all washed and bought 3-3 packs of underwear. I went through 7 pairs today. He NEVER went pee or poop on the potty and actually didn't poop today. I hope he doesn't do it tonight. I will have to check him later. He just seemed so excited to wear the underwear and was wandering about the house like he was glad to be a big boy. I had my prizes of snack packs that I made of m&ms, toy mini balls etc, but he didn't get any today. I had to clean my carpet in the same area twice (felt like I had a dog with a fire hydrant), the deck and he actually got ontop of a toy and peed once and peed through his underwear on my shoe another time. It was just really frustrating because he would pee all these times moments or a few minutes after we had been on the potty. We were on the potty every 1/2 hour most of the time too. The book I read really wants to get the parent involved in the reactions of the child and get the word out to them fast that the potty is the way to go with the pee and poop. Today it just wasn't working for me. Really, at 6pm when he peed on my shoe (thankfully it was a flip flop that I could wash) I just wanted to cry. ALL DAY he never did a thing on the potty that I had wished so much for and had to nicely act like it was just an accident throughout the day rather than scold or cry like I wanted that it was ANOTHER accident. I hope that I can pick up on his cues a bit more tomorrow and the next day. I am not going back to diapers, but only at bed time right now. Any thoughts or been there done thats would really help right now. Thanks.
