Icon11 Scared of the potty

So, ok, DH and I decided to start potty training Ava about a month ago - which is actually quite late considering DD Julie and DS Alfie were potty trained before their 3rd birthday.
We are having a mad time trying to get Ava out of nappies. She is literally scared of the potty and the toilet. She screams the house down and cries for an hour if we so much as go near her with it.
We don't understand where this comes from. We experienced nothing like this with Julie and Alfie - they seemed happy and content to learn how to go outside of nappies. We've even had Alfie show Ava how it's done, thinking she'd listen to him because they're practically best friends. We've tried things like giving Alfie sweets and praising him whenever he's showed Ava what a good boy he's been but nothing works. We've even told her that she has to be a big girl now because only Meg wears the nappies. Nothing works!

I'm getting a little worried because Ava will be starting nursery school in September - I know it's six months away but we really want her to be comfortable with going to the toilet and I don't like the idea of her wearing nappies with other school children. Maybe it's just me being paranoid but does anyone have any suggestions?
