I am in the same situation w/my 3-yr old too. We attempted to start potty training when I was in the last few weeks of my 2nd pregnancy. I thought it wouldn't be that difficult to get him out of diapers?? We thought it would go smoothly before the twins came. Boy, we thought wrong. So now we have 3 kids in diapers!!..

My 3 yr old is just not interested. Someone told me that it will just hapapen one day out of the blue. but I have yet to see...Good luck and keep us updated.

we're in the same boat . . Tony will be 3 in August and we have #3 coming in June . . .

i wanted so badly to not have 2 in diapers, BUT here we are!

i have decided to just let things happen as they happen . . . . he's definitely not a fan of forced potty training, so i've just resolved myself to waiting

(boys are supposed to be harder to potty train, anyhow!)

good luck!

My cousin is having this issue with her 3 year old son-- it is really taking a toll on her and I feel awful. I am looking for good tips to help her out-- did anyone happen to catch Surviving Motherhood today? I know it was about potty training and I wanted to watch-- but I was busy at that time. I'd love to hear what they said though- anyone see it?

Well I know what you are all meaning on this so much. But I have opted to use real underwear instead of pull ups and I have days where she goes on the potty w/o telling her and days where she pees her pants and she laughs at it. But I still have not gotten her to go the #2 in the potty. I am just like you all wanting her out of them so that is like alot of money saving once she is out of them!

Girls, I know it's tough. I have 4 kids and it wasn't easy thing each time. But after all, they are all out of diapers so it WILL happen sooner or later. I'm from Japan and parents give potty training from age 1. My mother was very much shocked when I told her that my son's still wearing diaper when he was 2.
But anyway, non of my kids graduated from diaper before 3. Let's see what I did. I think I got some book to educate myself. It says it's wasting time to start when your baby can't communicate with you. I agree that training pants won't work for the sake of training. I used training pants to let them know that they are becoming big boy/girl so they are changing to big boy/girl underwear. It was just for security when we go out or in pre-school to avoid big accident. When they were home, I think I used regular underwear so they can FEEL it when it gets wet. I showed video to them (It's potty time) and it helped a lot. In fact, I recomended this video to my friend who was struggling with her 4 years old and she got over with her son. You can go to Amazon.com to get it cheaper. But kids watch video many times so it's better be in good shape.
Hopefully it helps.

Kim

THat video sounds wonderful-- I will definitely have to get it for my cousin. Between this and the Surviving Motherhood advice, she will HAVE to have some luck with this potty training business! I know it must be so tough- I feel so bad for her!
