This is my first post, so please forgive me if I mess up or something. I'm in dire need of assistance with a problem. My son will urinate on the potty with no problems. However, he will not poop on the potty. I sit him on there at the times when he normally poops and he holds it in. So I take him off the potty and put him in a pull up. Here's the problem. He poops at bedtime and naptime, and he's been taking off his pull-up, pooping on the floor, and sometimes smearing it into the carpet.
I bought him a potty chair for his room, which he proceeded to break within 1/2 an hour of it being opened and taken out of the box. I'd put him back in the crib, but he'd climb out and break his neck. I don't know what to do anymore. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Rowan

I just got my last one potty trained and had a hard time at first getting her to poop in the potty chair but once she did we haven't had an accident since. as gross as this may sound she came in the bathroom while I was doing my business and I showed her lol and it worked ever since then she will poop in the potty chair and my only advice I can give is go straight to underwear and give lots of praise. We went straight from diapers to underwear and it didn't take long to get her potty trained! They have plastic covers too. Good Luck!!

A potty-training "problem" with a little bitty boy who apparently just made two? (I assume it is the child born in 2005, rather than 2001, that is in question.) Well, you know what I think about that one, because with me there would BE no "potty-training" involved with a little boy like that, ESPECIALLY if he can break something as sturdy as a potty chair! You see, that's just the thing -- little boys should never HAVE a potty chair because they should be plenty big enough to sit on (and stand before) the toilet before you begin. Didn't you know that there were diapers (with tabs, as they're NOT Pull-Ups) made for children over 35 pounds? They were introduced in 1998 by Pampers, but now they are made by every diaper company and may soon have a size even bigger than that. So why not just stop swimming against the tide and put him back in "tab diapers" with overalls to prevent him from taking them off? Why not realize that just as the average boy's voice becomes manly a full TWO YEARS after the average girl starts her period (the average girl being 12 while her male peers continue to sound childish until age 14), this is yet another milestone in which boys are SUPPOSED to be older when they reach it? Please do the right thing by putting him in diapers, and don't EVER listen to the advice of a parent with a GIRL because if you do you'll be comparing apples to oranges!!! Little boys are SUPPOSED to train later, so just be glad he's off to the right start at being a real "macho" guy, rather than some gay/bi/metro dude who was completely potty-trained by age 2 with spotless white briefs by age 4. Remember -- it's the ones that are most like girls who have the least trouble learning to use the toilet, so just count your blessings because your son will probably be just fine when he gets older if you just do the right thing and put him in regular diapers with clothes that are harder to remove.

I agree witht hte mom who showed her. It's gross but worked. I've done the same. My youngest is mostly potty trained (working on nights now) and I gave her small m&ms when she'd poop. Asmall bribe won't hurt. You may wan tto sit there when you know he needs to go and read a book to encourage him to sit there. Good luck!!

I have the same problem with my daughter about not pooping in the potty/toilet (but she has constipation problems too). Dont stress too much, he'll get it in his own time. Try and find a way to distract him from taking the nappy off and encouraging him to poo still in the potty/toilet. Hang in there, patience is the key

I know I am late in responding but to anyone out there whose kiddo has constipation issues I strongly recommend seeing a ped GI. This was our issue for a long time (dd would often hold for 5 days) and the doctor put her on a powder that goes in her drink to help her colon retain water. I'm happy to say that after a month and half on that we are pooping issue free on the potty.
