This is a discussion on A little trick I was taught within the Potty Training forums, part of the Parenting Babies & Toddlers category; I know what I am going to say, might sound crazy, but it does work.
My DH & i didn'...
I have not even thought of teaching my son to pee standing up i am training him to sit down until he is a bit older then Dh can help him useing the fruit loops or whatever we use for training
thanks for shareing your tip!
I have also heard of the fruit loops trick. On a few occassions when my son sees my husband go in the bathroom, he tells me he has to pee also and i let him go. But he doesnt want to stand in front of his little potty and go, he wants to stand at the big one like daddy. I myself am just trying to get him to successfully sit down and go all the time, but when daddy is there he has to be a big boy and stand. The first time we let him stand in front of his, he turned around to the big potty and peed all over the side of it. So, now we let him put his stool up against it and he has been successful. That was, until he decided to be stubborn and stop going on the potty all together. But, I think that if you let him learn by example, it will be much more successful.
We used this for helping to teach Mason a bit about aim! We used Cheerios (which are new to Australia btw!) in the toilet bowl.
I've heard a ping-pong ball in the toilet is another good item for aim practise
and by gosh do little boys that insist on standing up to wee NEED to learn how to aim....mind you I think it is something even BIG boys need to learn better LOL!
I heard about the ping pong balls too - apparently they dont flush so they stay in there and get washed over. Prolly need to disinfect every day still. But it saves wasting the cereal lol
I agree with u Jenn about the big "boys" needing to learn to aim better - maybe we all should invest in some floating things in out loo's for them to "hit". lol

I just learned something about the cereal thing NOT a good idea if you kid is an ambitious fellow my son thought it was so cool learning to aim at the fruit loops that yeah he dumped a WHOLE BOX in the potty (and my younger son was trying to eat them UGH!) adventures in potty training lol

OH MY GOODNESS!!! teehee BOYS huh! (not giggling at the trying to eat bit, just the dumping! - Mason screwed up a bunch of newspaper and tried to flush it a few weeks ago - needless to say I didn't laugh then!)
There is an Aussie product on the market, perhaps it's reached USA by now? I saw it on an Inventor's TV show recently. It's called a "Wee Target" and the black spot changes to a cool picture when the wee hits it. Here is a link. http://www.weetarget.com.au/ I think it's a great idea - although Mason really does seem to have gotten the hang of peeing in the toilet with fairly good aim now he is a bit taller!
Hopefully no aiming problems with girls! That's what I envy about mom's of girls....no constant puddles around the toilet, on the wall, on the back of the toilet blah blah blah
Guess you still get plenty of toilet training problems though huh?
