Default How do I end the struggle?

Hi! I know I haven't posted here but my son is giving me the hardest time with potty training. He is very willfull and likes to do things himself and when his mind is made up, it's made up, he doesn't want to potty train. He'd be happy to stay in his diapers forever. Everytime we ask if he has to go potty (which is frequently) he says no and acts irritated. When we go to put him on the potty he fights us (ARGH!) and will very rarely let us put him on it but he doesn't pee or poop on it, he doesn't pee a lot, and doesn't poop a lot so it'd be hard to catch him during those times, he won't tell us when he has to pee or poop. He has watched videos, he has two of his own potties plus a potty seat for the big people toilet and, GET THIS, his 20 month old brother has peed on the toilet a couple times now but he keeps fighting us, even seeing his younger brother use it wasn't an incentive. I keep thinking that he needs a REALLY good incentive to use the potty.. any suggestions?

Hopefully you've had some luck with this, since this post is about a month old... But if not - a few ideas...

Have you tried putting the potty in a different place? Outside, upstairs in a different room? My son fought me and finally putting the potty chair on the back deck outside and me inside not standing over him was what did it. Getting a toy for doing it helped after that too, but it's going outside that started it.

Also have you let him walk around with only underwear or shorts on and no diapers/pullups? Sometimes they don't like the feel of being wet. It's a pain cleaning it up though. But I had my two help me clean it up and change themselves after they wet themselves.

Just a few thoughts. Good luck!

Before I got company my son was doing well starting with potty training as = nothing on his bottom 'potty chair' where his favorite t.v shows are in the living room but 'after we got company he doesn't want to do it. Plus I have to have him fully potty trained by the time it's to send him to 'preschool next year they said a 'couple of 'accidents' will be okay. So only in a couple more wks i can 'start that up again'.

Hi there, I know I'm the new one here but I had a problem with my son and potty training. I go so fustrated that I got on the internet to look for help. I found a nice little e-book that helped me out. Maybe it can help you out and others that are having the same problem. Potty Training Made Easy. Good luck!
