Icon5 questions about lactose intolerance

We think our older dd is lactose intolerant, we have thought this since she was around 16 months old. About the time we introduced dairy, she would often have bouts of diarrhea, along with bloating and bad breath. I kept taking her to the dr. Finally she had a bout so bad, it smelled like something died in her room and she had the nastiest dirty diaper in the middle of the night. We took her to the dr and he told us to put her on soy milk and her symptoms immediately disappeared. So we took her off all dairy, I reintro'd products with milk in them, but just keep her off straight dairy. Now she will occasionally have cheese and yogurt. She is 33 months now and has not had a bout with the diarrhea except once after she ate quite a bit of frozen yogurt. Last summer, I started introducing yogurt...one spoonful and gradually increased and by the end of the week, I gave her a cheese sandwich...but that seemed to be the limit. I was afraid to try straight milk after that.

I guess I want to know if anyone knows about a test for lactose intolerance. It would be nice to have a test to know definitively that she is LI or how intolerant she is. Would this be done through her regular ped, through an allergist or GI dr? Anyone know how accurate it is?

I saw Jennifer mention it in another post. My dd is 1/2 asian btw and it can be more common in asians. My younger dd has a milk allergy and her symptoms are different.
