Default Anyone gluten free?

We are delving into the world of gluten free and I want to commiserate. I'm having a hard time as almost everything has to be feshly made and that has not been my eating style lately. Evan's test for celiac was negative, but I'm waiting for the actual lab report to see how negative etc. We decided to give it a try anyways to see if it helps Evan's growth at all.

I'm sorry. I can't imagine how hard that is. We're not gluten-free, but Xander is wheat-free and barley-free. Are you doing it for the whole family or just for Evan? Feel free to vent here... I know how hard dietary restrictions are.

Hi Jennifer,

It's hard, I know. Is anyone in your family a celiac? I haven't put my boys on a GF diet yet, but I am GF. I'm not officially diagnosed a celiac, because I refuse to go back on gluten to get the biopsy done. My bloodwork came back extrememly positive.

It isn't easy, but it doesn't run my life, either. Tinkyada makes a great pasta - I don't even notice the difference. Prego traditional pasta sauce is GF. I find lots of snacks that I like... most all potato chips are fine (watch out for pringles, bugles and the cracker-type chips) and Walmart sells GF Pantry brownies and muffin mixes for about $3.00 where I live. The brownie mix is awesome. The muffin mix is okay. Also for breakfast, Fruity pebbles (original and berry flavor), Dora, NeoPets and there is a chocolate cereal that is GF, too. Be sure to watch out for anything that has "malt flavoring" - it is barley. Of course, you probably already know all of this, because when I first went GF, many people would give me advice over and over, but I had already read all of the same info on the internet. There may be a support group where you live, so definitely check it out. Feel free to PM me if you want more info or want to talk about it more in-depth. I'd be happy to help.

Good luck!

Thanks, things are getting easier and he's grown! After 6 mos of not growing, he grew 1/2" in the first 3 wks of being GF. No one in my family has celiac, but my dad has a form of Crohns which can be linked w/ celiac and my SIL has lots of stomach issues and no one has ever been able to tell her why. She even missed Thanksgiving today b/c of her problems. We're finding more and more 'normal' food that is GF. It's hard though b/c he's only 3 (in 2 wks) so he doesn't eat a wide variety of food anyways so we're trying to balance that and being GF. I'm sure there is a support group as Omaha I guess is like celiac central. lol I just need to keep looking for one and actually go. I attend a food allergy support group already run at the bfing place here so that's a great help.

Two of my favorite brands for Xander are Ener-G (http://www.ener-g.com) and Enjoy Life Foods (http://www.enjoylifefoods.com). Ians is a good one too for kid stuff (http://www.iansnaturalfoods.com). Good luck!

We use a lot of ener-g and enjoy life products. We also use CherryBrook Kitchen mixes which come in a gluten free variety. We love the cookies, brownies and pancakes and we get them right in our local grocery store.

We usually feature some cute allergy friendly recipes in our free newsletter.

This is my first post on this board...but! Wanted to say we're Gluten and Casein Free and now that I know the routine, it has gotten MUCH easier.

It's livable, but it's certainly not easy, but I get a kick out of finding new stuff all the time. I made a rice/almond bread the other day that is AMAZING. Score one for mommy!~

Good luck!
