Icon5 O/T - Has anyone read the new Brooke Shields' book?

Has anyone read "Down Came the Rain" by Brooke Shields? I read an excerpt from it in People magazine, and it's sounds really good. It's about her journey through PPD, and having been there it just sounds inspirational.

Anyone?

Nope, but she's on Oprah this afternoon and I'm recording it to watch either tonight or tomorrow. I had no idea that's what it was about, the TV guide just mentions something about finding happiness or something like that.

read an excerpt in a mag. at the doctor's office...looked interesting

The book I need to get is called "What am I thinking: Having a baby after postpartum depression" by the same author as "This isn't what I was expecting: overcoming postpartum depression." If I have another (and I plan to), I need a good battle plan b/c I am VERY high risk for PPD after now having 3 episodes plus previous depression. I'd like to beat the odds for once.

Oh, Sandi, I just feel for you, that must be so hard to deal with, I can't even begin to imagine! I hope the books have some good insight for you!

I only caught a few minutes of Oprah, but I do have it recorded. Sounds like Brooke had a very rough time. I have a lot of respect for her to talk about it because I had no idea it was that common. My mother had it after having my little brother so my father told her no more children, they had planned on having four. He dr gave her valium (SP?). Can you imagine, giving a mother that and she had a preschooler, toddler and a newborn to care for? Crazy! She said after she took one pill, my father started to cut them in quarters because she was so looped from a whole pill.

Anyway, Sandi, keep us updated on your progress! Have you gone to the new dr yet?

Sandi, those books sound incredibly interesting too. I may have to go to the library and check them out. I am sorry you are going through this too. I know how awful place it is. I hope that at least in the next month you will start to feel a little bit better. But don't pressure yourself. You WILL feel better. There is hope, and you will start to feel like "you" again.

Lurking to say I am going to pick up her book this weekend. I suffered terribly from it my last baby and I can't imagine going through it again. I am terrified to have it again. I can't explain how I felt it was the worse time in my life and I have never experienced depression before so thoughts of wanting my life to end were really really out there for me. I will actually consider medication this time if I have it once more and I never thought I would take medication for depression in my entire life. But I believe now... PPD is real and very very awful.
