Icon5 Question about dentist

Hi ladies, I hope everyone had a great mothers day. DH has been gone for 3 weeks, so I was pretty solo yet again. But my new nanny came over and gave the boys something to give me, which were 2 frames with their hand prints and a sweet poem with the year. I about cried! It was awesome!

Anyways... the question I have is when do you take them to the dentist for the first time? I am totally confused on this part of it all. We brush our teeth everyday, or in their case, chew on the brush. But I try to get in there and help, but ever since DH let them "brush" themselves, they refuse to let the brushes go.

Anyways, any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ladies, and I am going to try and get on here more, now that things are starting to settle down.

Take care *big hugs*

Paula

I think like most things - it varies. Some people say at a year, others at 3 yrs. I took my two at 3 yrs old. They didn't have any issues and love the place we go to. If you go - I'd recommend a PEDIATRIC dentist. They are much better with the kids than a regular/family dentist in most cases.

I work in a Pediatric Dentist office and we recommend between ages 2 and 3. I took mine right before a year and then again at 2 years and every 6 months there after.

Most dentists want to see them when they're 3...DS had an appointment a couple of months ago...we took the girls with us so they could see what was going on (they had just turned 3)...our dentist said to just bring them in the next time we bring DS in - which will be in November...they'll be 4 in Feb. I think if they're too young, they won't cooperate and it will be useless anyways.

We tried taking DS when he was 3, but it was a disaster...he was 4 when we finally got him to calm down enough to have them look at his teeth...now he does just fine!!

Unless there's a concern, I'd wait until they're a tad older.

I agree w/ the pediatric dentist - so much better than a family practice (even when they're friendly and good). At our dentist, it's all about making the kids feel comfortable.

I took the girls at 2 to a pediatric dentist and they did SO well! My mom had gotten this big Dora book in it with a bunch of stories and one was about her going to the dentist. So when we got in there they knew what all the things were and since it was a ped dentist they were super friendly with toys everywhere and even had flat screen tvs in front of each chair with Dora playing!!

What we did at first was we'd brush for them and THEN they'd brush themselves but we had to do it first. then we started flossing too and now they are pros letting us brush them really good and flossing as well.

Awesome present the nanny and boys made for you!! It's good to see you around again!
