Hi everyone. I am new here. I just delivered twin girls on March 20, 2008 and have been adjusting to the lifestyle. I feel as though all is going well and we have our girls on a great schedule so far. I have lots of questions and hope that you all will be able to help me out through all of this. I am feeding my girls every 3 hours as of now. We feed them at 6,9,12,and 3 around the clock. If they get up earlier, we feed them when they do as long as they are close to their scheduled time. Generally they stick to the schedule and we have to wake them at this point. I am curious how quickly you were able to get your babies to sleep for around 6 hours at a time. I know that it is way to early for that at this point. I am going to try to let them sleep after they are 2 weeks between the hours of midnight and 6 AM and see how long they go. If anyone has any advice, I would love to here it. Thanks.

HI and WELCOME! My two would definitely let us know when they were hungry and woke up pretty much on that 3 hour schedule. If one would sleep, we would just wake him or her up to feed at the same time. I think you will find that the babies WILL let you know when they are ready. I can't remember when they slept for 6 hours straight. I do know that it was around 4-5 months when our daughter started sleeping thought the night:-)

Hey Mel!! They will definitely let you know when they can sleep through, but remember they need those overnight feedings at least for the first 4 months. And that's from their 40 week due date, not when they were actually born. It varies for everyone, so try not to get frustrated. I hate to tell you, but my two didn't sleep through the night til they were 18 mos old. Then potty training messed that up. So there's always something that messes with your sleep. So enjoy the few hrs you DO get. Hang in there!!
Hi Mel!!
I'm so glad you came here to ask your ?s!! That's what we're here for!
I think it really depends on how many weeks your twins were born at. If they were full term then they'll sleep longer earlier than twins that were born immaturely. It also depends on how big they are and how fast they are growing.
I think that the stage you are in right now was the hardest for me and my DH. The waking every 3 hours was reallllly rough on the both of us. Something that helped us out that you may want to try was we would both feed them at 9pm and then I'd wake up and feed them at midnight and he'd wake up and feed them at 3am - or something like that - so we would each get a stretch of 6 hours of sleep to function.
ARe you breast feeding?
The sleeping for long stretches doesn't USUALLY happen until a few months from now.
Hang in there girl! You're doing awesome and actually mine were put on a 4 hour feed when they were a month old so that helped. I thihk that will probably be your next step.
And also, ask your ped what he/she'd suggest when it comes to feedings. If you have big babies then they'll probably let them go longer in between feeds.
Mine were on the same 3 hour feeding schedule until about 3 months old when they started to skip the 3am feeding YAY! Oh, it was glory hallelujah, let me tell ya! For about the 1st 6 weeks, I stayed in the living room with them, sleeping on the couch with them ON me (I was BFing) and then moved them to the crib at 6 weeks, and that's when they REALLY got on a great schedule.
Good luck!

Congratulations and welcome to the board. I vaguely remeber those every 3 hr feedings and they did last for a few months at least but do know that it will get better and one day it will be one big blur! The best piece of advice I received was to get them both on the same schedule as soon as possible and I drilled the same schedule into my two from day one, when one ate they both ate when one slept they both slept, sometimes I had to wake one up but it really helped. Good luck and ask all the questions you want the ladies here are wonderful and full of great ideas.
I was all about a schedule back in those days and actually, we still are. When one got up, we got the other up. Diapers were (and still are) changed at the same time. Feedings happened at the same time. Peyton slept thru the night before Hannah, so we finally did wise up to that and let her sleep and just fed Hannah when she got up at night for a couple of months.

Hey there Mel, congrats again and welcome to the other side...lol Everyone else gave you pretty good advice, the only advice I can give is like M&M I have my twins on the SAME schedule now and have since they came home from the hospital. It works out GREAT that way and also gives you some time to yourself too. The older they get, the better the schedule will work too!!
