I have this weird pain that starts wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy deep down inside at my hip bone and shoots down the top of my left leg. It's been doing that for days.
Like a moron I googled it and now I'm fairly certain I have degenerative hip disease. *sigh*

Yup, google that, my neighbor had it bad a couple of months ago, sharp pains in her leg! Hope it goes away or maybe you need to go to the Dr. Hope you feel better.

Wow... check it out- wouldn't it be cool if that was it??? It's not quite the same thing I don't think. But still cool to think about.

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, providing sensory and motor function to the lower extremities. This nerve provides sensation to the back of the thigh, lower part of the leg and the sole of the foot. Sciatic nerve pain is a periodic severe pain that occurs throughout your legs. What causes sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy?
The sciatic nerve runs under your uterus to your legs. The cause of sciatic nerve pain is thought to be associated with pressure on the nerve caused by the developing baby. What can I do to treat sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy?
The simplest remedy is to lie on your side, opposite of the pain. This may help relieve the pressure on the nerve. Avoid heavy lifting and minimize standing for long periods of time. If you experience pressure while standing, try elevating one foot and resting it on something. Swimming may also ease discomfort.
You may experience relief by applying heat or cold to the troubled area. Your health care provider may recommend acetaminophen to relieve the pain.
When I had it, it actually shot through my lower back, into the front of my leg right next to my ho-ha and then down my inner and back of my thighs. It was so painful it woke me at night and I cried. DH didn't know what to do to help me. I ended up going to a chiropractor and he iced my lower back while I was on my stomach. He also put some super hot rub stuff on it. Anyway, not sure if something like that might help, but may be worth a try. OH yeah, and it hurt the worst in my hips (inner).
One other thing it could possibly be is tendonitis. Your patella runs down your outer leg form the hip and into the knee. This could cause knee pain or hip pain and can usually be fixed with nice long stretches through the outer leg. Just another though!
I had something similiar a few years ago; some of my friends convinced me to take an exercise ball class... the pain started the day after the first class. Turns out I had somehow gotten my hips out of place. The pain was worse in my low back though. Luckily the chiropractor was able to get everything back in place.
You might try the chiropractor... alot of people think they're quacks but they've always helped me.

Well, it's not severe. It's just every once in a while I will get the shooting pain from my hip down the top of my leg. It comes and goes. If it keeps up maybe I will look into it some more.
Well, that degenerative hip disease just sounded like something I would worry about, and I'm a closet hypochondriac. My foot was hurting and I was pretty sure it was cancer, turned out to be the sandals I had been wearing.
I laugh about it though because I always google and freak myself out, but I don't really get worried and deep down I know I probably don't have whatever disease I'm currently worried about.
Once when I was about 10, my mom saw me sitting on the couch obviously worried about something, and asked what was wrong. I was freaking out quietly because the neighbor's cat had scratched me and I was sure I was going to get rabies.
Really though, I am terrified of rabies. I think it's because of that book about Louis Pasteur, I don't know if any of you ever read it, but it was about the development of the rabies vaccine and I can still see that dog frothing at the mouth and the little boy getting sicker and sicker! AhhH!! It was a horrible children's book!
AHHHHHHHHH I remember that one!!! It was one book in a series of books about famous inventions or something, right??
Yeah, I guess I'm almost a hypochondriac. I'm like you though, I don't REALLY worry about it. But it's there in the back of my head once I stare at a mole and think, "I wonder if that's melanoma".
