Icon5 Testing question

I'm supposed to start clomid (again....) tomorrow and if everything goes well RE wants to try IUI again.

Should I be pushing for an HSG / other tests to rule out fibroids / endo / or who knows what or would any of the previous b/w and such indicate that those aren't necessary? Kind of want to make sure we're not wasting cycles as insurance doesn't cover any of this

My RE won't move forward with Clomid/IUI without doing an HSG first . . . BUT, that isn't standard. OBs will usually try 3-4 months of Clomid without doing further testing. I think as long as DH's swimmers have been tested, it may make sense to keep trying Clomid a few times.

First, you've had u/s - in most cases, that can show if there are some uterine abnormalities/irregularities (like fibroids). My fibroid was found first by an u/s. Smaller things like polyps can't be found without more invasive testing, and they can't tell if your tubes are open or not. If you have no symptoms of endo and you obviously have ovulation issues, it makes sense to see if treating the ovulation issues is enough before spending tons of money on expensive tests, especially if those tests aren't covered by insurance. If you have a couple of failed IUIs with good development and timing (and I wouldn't count last month) I might consider asking about further testing at that point. GL!

Yep, my fibroid was found by U/S too. It's the size of a small pea...but it's not blocking anything so they aren't messing with it.

I agree, my OB does 3 rounds of clomid too. But not back to back. BUMMER. I'm glad they are upping your Clomid dose though. I don't recall seeing anyone who has got a BFP with 50mg...but I could be wrong. Good luck!

Hey Julie. My ob/gyn checked for fibrioids because I had abnormal bleeding during my cycle. Did an ultrasound first and thought there was something there. Did a sonohystogram (kinda like an HSG-put fluid into your uterus...painful) and then saw nothing, so I was in the clear. I saw my ob/gyn Friday and talked about referral to an RE, which we will do after the 3rd cycle. She said they would not do an IUI if it came to that without first doing an HSG-like Tkeys said. But I guess it depends on your Dr. and circumstances.

**Also question for Tkeys or Trinity...I stayed on 50 mg of Clomid my second cycle. What does increasing your dosage do? Since I O'd well on 1st time, she kept dosage the same. I go in for a day 23 progesterone check again this month to see how I O'd. If it is about the same or lower (23.1) should I ask to increase my dosage?

I think if you O'd well on 50, there is no benefit to increasing your Clomid dose - it can increase the s/e (such as thinned lining and hostile CM) which would do more harm than good.

My ob usually does 2 cys of 50 and then 2 of 100. I know a lot of drs will test the 7DPO and if the number is good, will not increase at all and do up to 4 cys on just the 50.

I have a friend on another board who got pregnant her 3rd cy on 50. Her progesterone was actually not very good, and they were planning to increase her to 100 for month #4 when she got her (her progesterone was only 8.3).
