Default Target and the story of a FRER....

If anyone could appreciate this, it's my POAS addict friends! Sorry for the length....

So I drop my DD off at dance tonight and decide I'm going to run to Target to buy a digital FRER. So after parusing the many options available to me, I choose the cadillac of all FRERs...the FRER Digital GOLD 2 pack (ooooowwwww, ahhhhhhhh). So I'm looking at the label on the shelf and it says it's $8.99. I'm thinking that sounds like a pretty good price (I've never priced these before) so I finish my shopping & head up to the register.

So there is a girl who is probably 16 or 17 ringing me up. I'm watching the screen to make sure everything is scanning correctly and when she rings up the FRER, it scans at a whopping $17.99. I'm like "ummm, excuse me, but I think that's incorrect, the sign said it's $8.99 or $9.99 <I couldn't remember exactly, but I KNOW it wasn't $17.99>. So she calls up a manager. The next thing I know, I see one of my company's VPs walking past me with her daughter (who was just at my house about 40 minutes beforehand. Another story...). The kicker is NO ONE at work knows we're TTC <and I'd like to keep it that way until I'm ready to announce we're PG!> and here the cashier and the manager are swinging around this FRER like it's a flag!! <I'm trying to hold the VPs attention so she doesn't see the chaos that is happening at the register!!> So then VP leaves and the manager has walked away. Dodged a bullet on that one!!

I didn't hear anything of what those two said. So the cashier procedes to tell me that the test is in fact $17.99, and I said "no it's not. I will be happy to take someone over there to show them that there is like 4 rows of these things labeled anything but $17.99". She then tells me "I'm sorry but we're short-handed and no one is available to do a price check. I said "I'm sorry but that's not my problem, can you just do an override, and she says no, she can't. Then I said "I would like to talk to a manager. If they are marked incorrectly, someone needs to be made aware of it" (sidenote, one of my duties as a retail buyer is programming all Promos into the system, so this is a sensitive issue for me)

Meanwhile a line is forming (don't you hate THAT customer, well tonight it was me! But seriously, that's a HUGE discrepancy!). So I told her to call a manager again. She does and the lady comes back...and this time, I left all my stuff there and walked over there with her. She takes one look at the shelf and realizes yep, there are 4 rows of them marked at $8.79!! Cheaper than what I had thought!! So, she tells me, just have the cashier override them for $8.79. About 20 minutes of my life I will never get back! However, I did get the FRER for $8.79 and I'm a happy camper.

Those FRER Gold are super expensive. Count yourself lucky for getting them at 8.79!!! I need to go to that Target and swindle them into giving many boxes at $8.79. Good job standing up for yourself.

Trinity...sorry about your experience at Target. When I was manager, didn't take that long to get a response!! **I will give ya'll a little insight. When we train our cashiers we tell them about the $20 rule. That is when there is a price discrepancy, the cashier has the "authority" to change the price for the guest (customer) if it is within a $20 amount. So she should have changed it, saved you trouble and management. But glad you showed them the labels...they need to know!!!!! HaHa.

Let me know how your Fredericksburg trip goes-have fun!!!!

I'd be highly annoyed too.................... least in the end it was cheaper

One of the local grocery stores has a policy if you catch a mis-marked item (as something says it's on sale but then it doesn't ring up or like in your case the price is just different) then you get it for free.

Which i didn't know until i pointed it out and thought i'd get the difference back but instead they gave me the whole amount back - so that's kind of fun

What a pain. Glad you stood your ground and made them responsible for their error. Since you got it so cheap...you can totally justify using one early and saving the other for confirmation in a few days....

Trinity - You should have grabbed a couple more at that price!!! What a great bargain! I am the same way when it comes to pricing. I seem to always get my way when shopping and love killing them with kindness because it is funny to watch management sqwirm! Good shoppin!!!

Thanks everyone! I'm a pretty observant shopper, and I've done my 'time' working at the retail level so I'm able to view the situation from ALL levels. Jenny, I used to be a supervisor at K-mart, so I know how much leway they really have. It's not worth losing a customer over especially if it's less than $20. I think that is a fair rule, and the majority of the population is honest and wouldn't waste their time arguing if they didn't have a legit complaint. Although, I do know of a ton of customers who pitch a fit EVERYWHERE they go just to see what they can get. It makes it difficult sometimes for the rest of us.

So anyway, after going home and telling hubby about that, he said "You should have bought 5 of them!". I didn't want to be greedy and push it. Well, if I was in town this weekend, I probably would. I would be VERY surprised if they changed it.

So....I'm going to be testing on Sunday. I have three other regular FRERs, I just wanted the digital to confirm. I'm pretty nervous. Something is going on. I'm either pregnant or I'm going to have the worst period EVER. I won't be back into town until late Sunday, so goodluck to everyone (including Jessica and ModernDayVerona!) Hope you both get your BFPs!!!

Oh, that pic in the flowers was taken a few years ago. I'm in Fort Worth and that was at the Shaw-Kemp Homestead in Parker County. Gorgeous area!
